I ordered the Healthcabin Ego VV (eGo Variable Volt/Watt APV V2 (Only Body) [D-B4 APV] - $39.00 : Healthcabin Electronic Cigarettes - Wholesale and Retail) a few moments ago. All of the 18650s which I currently have are flat tops. I've read that Version 2 of the HC Ego VV has proper insulation and can work with the flat tops. However, I've also read that the V1 could potentially short out with the flat top batteries.

Anyone have any experience with this? Should I go ahead and order a couple of button top batteries? Will my flat tops work safely?

You can use flat top or button top. I'm using button top AW IMRs in mine. The APV Health Cabin are selling is version 2 so you'll be fine. I bought mine from them. There was a potential issue with version 1.
People are finding trustfires don't work with this pv. I wouldn't use them anyway. I suggest getting IMRs.

My wife got one for me for Xmas. I tried it out when it came in to make sure there were no problems before it got wrapped up. I put my Orbtronics (panasonic cell) 18650 3100 mAh protected button tops in. Worked fine and they are a long battery (close to 70 mm). IMR's are recommended for VV devices, but the protected bats will work.
