I am a smoker of 1 pack (Salem Light 100) per day and wish to try the E-cig as a way to quit with tobacco cigs. I don't know what is what with E-cigs and would love some advice.

Which brand/model?
Which seller of "hardware"?
Which "flavor" might be a close match for Salem Lights?
Where to buy the flavor cartridges?

I am concerned about getting these cartridges from an unknow entity, so I'd rally appreciate your honest assistance. You can email me directly, if you prefer lisabateman at yahoo

Thanks!

Lisa,

It's definitely worth trying for sure. It's a great alternative to smoking regular cigarettes. I have only been doing it for two weeks now, and I can tell it's something that I will enjoy for a long time to come. I am rather new at this and have been doing some research. Everyone seems to like the 510 as it produces good vapor and the battery lasts. I ordered a eGo from JantyUSA which is basically a 510 device with a bigger battery. Read the starter guides on this forum, which will help you make the right choice. The more specific you get with your questions here, the more help you will get. This seems to be one of the best resources that I could find on the web for vaping info.

Lisa,

There is a link to the forum suppliers above which you can look around at. Janty seems to be a good one. The suppliers and sponsors of this site seem to be solid. If you are not sure about a retailer, ask the people here. It is a bit overwhelming by how many retailers there are selling these things.

If budget is an issue, I would say to set aside $75.00 to get everything you need to start vaping with a quality device.

Hey Lisa~

If you're interested in trying out an e-cig but not interested in making a huge investment I'd recommend first ordering a disposable model. MadVapes has "disposable" 510's for 10 bucks in both regular and menthol flavors, with varying milligrams of nicotine:)

It'd be a great and very economical way to give it a go with a nice model. I've not tried the disposables, but from what I hear they last a lot longer than stated. I've only vaped a 510, Joye-made, and while these disposables are not exactly genuine Joye products they are made to the same specifications. They perform equally -from what I've gathered on here. And they are automatic too, which some people find more desirable for making the first switch from analogs.

Good luck!

Nothing tastes like a cigarette - except a cigarette. But after trying some GOOD (emphasis intended) juice you are likely not to want a cig again anyways. No taste of ash, no taste of 'something died in my mouth' the following morning. No bad smell, no ashtray hair (my personal fave lol)
You can get many flavors, including tobacco type flavors (tobacco NOT cigarette), and while we can recommend some that WE like we can't know what YOU might like. This list is long - may I advise you read read read first the ECF Library thread and then perhaps look at the E Liquid reviews threads which will at least get you started.
Then come back and hit us with your questions and we'll try n go from there.
Welcome to ECF btw :)

For hardware, I'd recommend a Joye 510, or even better, an eGo (which is a 510 with a big battery and a neat cover). Battery life on the eGo is absolutely excellent, I get 6-8 hours, others get two days.
If you think any of this is expensive, just count together what you smoke per week …

Liquid is another question. No liquid ever will taste like a cigarette, since there is nothing that burns. OTOH, very soon, you won't miss that taste. We are just used to it, but things do taste better without the burning bit. Problem is, you have to try a bit, because as it happens to be with flavours, what one person likes, the next one loathes.

I've been vaping for less than a month, but here's my 2 cents anyway:D

After reading this board for a little bit and getting the "I'm tired of reviews, I JUST WANT TO ORDER" feeling, I went with a 901 starter kit from Rocky Mountain Vapor. I smoked menthols, so of course I went with menthol liquid. I got a USB passthrough for it, as the batteries just didn't seem to give me the same hit every time. I also ordered the USB adapter/car charger and I rarely have to rely on batteries as my job is driving.

The 501 got the best of my curiosity so I tricked the wife into thinking I was ordering backup parts for the 901. I got the 501 yesterday and at first wasn't impressed. In the time it took me to watch "Kurt and Courney", this thing has come to life and I haven't gone back to the 901 other than to do random "yep, I thought so" checks.

From what I've been hearing, a lot of people get a battery mod for the 501, which I'll probably end up looking into as well to cover myself should any power outages happen. As far as cartridges, I ordered 5 or so and it seems like 1 comes with every atty too. After a week of fumbling with refills, I gave up on it and went to dripping. Now I have about 8 cartridges that do nothing but sit and be bored all day.

In my limited experience, Rocky Mountain Vapor is excellent. I have vendors who are closer to me, but that cat has treated me very well. Good luck!

Hello !

I am a new member here also.

I went with the eGo, I love it!

I smoked menthols also. I have tried 3 different menthol e-juices. In my opinion they were very awful. We have narrowed it down. I ordered e juices named after different menthol brands. I have learned that my expectation is way out of line. I am not getting those other chemicals that were in my analogs. That's why the e-juice tastes different.

So...2 things have been suggested. I am getting a menthol/mint flavor juice without the tobacco flavor. Am also trying a few other flavors.

Best to you

Actually, mods+510 is very likely rarer than mods and older atties; initially, that was because there is less necessity, the original 510 batteries, while not long lasting, performed well. Then people often got irritated and complained that their 510 didn't taste as good any more – and usually blamed the atty. Turned out, it wasn't the atty, though. Joye 510s run on 3.1v, not the usual 3.7, and it makes them taste quite sharp if you put them on 3.7. Now, there are also quite a few people who like them better that way, but I'd not spend a lot of money on a mod without knowing whether you are one of those people. Get yourself an adapter and try it on a 901 battery you already have first.

The eGo lasts several times as long as the standard battery (180mAh vs. 650mAh), and if you are seriously worried about power outages, there is always the option of reloading it from USB power packs - although, to outlast an eGo battery, a power outage would have to last for quite a while.

The tornado/ego is a great e-cig. Don't have to mess with constantly changing batteries. I find the DSE901 to deliver better flavor however. Forget cartridges. Buy your own e-liquid and blank cartridges. Dead easy to fill the carts yourself.
Personally, I like a lot of Johnson Creek's juices (Tennessee Cured especially) but flavor is subjective and you will find no shortage of opinions on the forum about which liquids are best.

Well, I got to that point where I had to order...researching was making me smoke my regular cigarrettes way too much!

I ordered an EGO from Janty, which comes with 2 batteries, 1 atomizer, chargers, etc. I then ordered a couple extra 501 atomizers and blank cartridges. I also ordered some fluids from Freedom Smokes (myfreedomsmokes.com) and Johnson Creek (johnsoncreeksmokejuice.com) after having read the thread "What is That Perfume Taste". Now all I can do is sit and wait.

I'm totally amazed at how many places there are to purchase things related to the ECigs.

I'm interested in purchasing some menthol crystals. Is there anyone who has these and wants to sell them? I'd prefer to not order via Ebay with something like this.

Thanks again! Can't wait to get "vaping"!

Lisa, I'm also a new member here.
First time I bought a SparkPlug from litecigusa but the 801/BE112 atty didn't keep me away from my analog :D
But soon as I put 510 atty on it, I left my analog in my home.
I suggest you to get any 510 devices.
I'm waiting for my magnum kit with special atomizers from nHaler, can't wait to try 5V vaping experience.

Hi Jas,

When you fill your own do you hear that "crispy" sound while taking a hit?

Thanks.
