So made a little 18350 Purpleheart Heart.
Digikey switch, heavy duty spring.
All freehand.

Took about 5 hours so far, just hit it with a coat of tung oil, and first coat
of finishing wax. The purple will come in better with time, in a month or so
should be very purple.

Looks grand, if not a bit girlie. Props for doing it freehand too, you have a good eye. I've been trying a variety of hardwoods too, right now I am really liking Madrone, it's got a beautiful orange to it and machines great. Isn't this a full on mod and not just cosmetic?

Looks nice, be really cool if you drilled it out and recessed the tank so it sat inside of the heart and just the drip tip and maybe a bit of the tank stuck out
asdac, I tried a piece of Madrone burl, but it is still too wet.
The unit is a 18350, just a bit of wood around a battery, tiny little thing.
I figured it as cosmetic since I didn't put in a DNA chip. dunno

My piece was a cutoff, so id assume it is older than the part that got used. It is ever so slightly oily, but nothing you can feel on skin.

I hear that it must be Boiled as part of the drying process,
I had a big piece of Burl Madrone and ruined it trying to work with it too soon.
An expensive disappointment. Lignum Vitae is also very greasy, as is Cocbolo.

I was reading up on it and other types today and they said steaming for 6 hours before starting the drying process. To prevent further warping or something. Sorry to hear of your burl mishaps, mine was just a nice mod dimension piece long enough to do a 18650 and a 14500 model. There was a second 18650 piece, but that became a 2 mod desk stand with room for an extra atty. Still lovely though.
