Purpose of bridge and wick in bottom feeder???

If you have a bottom feeder, like a reo, and you do NOT drip what is purpose of bridge or wick on the atty ( 520 or 306)??? Anybody know. Thanks.

Doesn't really contribute much on a bottom-feeder. I use 306's and often de-wick them.
