I have an xtar battery charger and I put an AW 18490 battery on backwards. Smelled burning and the coil (spring) turned red and shrunk. Needless to say that port no longer works. Is my battery safe or should I get rid of it. Are the rest of the working ports safe to use?

A Spring Getting Red is Usually a Sign that things just went Bad.

The Battery is Toast. Recycle it how ever you are supposed to in your area.

As to the Charger. Well, what it did Wasn't Supposed to Happen. So I would Replace it ASAP.

I've vented batteries from shorts and mechanical mods and still use them to this day. I also have put it on my intella charger backwards fortunately it has backwards protection. test to see if your battery is okay in holding a charge and volts if not recycle them. but I'd advise you to get a new charger.
