Thank you for your service!
All I've ever driven, until I drove my girls honda element, were manuals. Not a fan of autos.
My Peterbilt is an 18 speed manual. My around town and take trips car is a Grand Marquis automatic. I never thought I would drive an auto in the snow. I was scared to even try but DH talked me into it. He raved about the newer tech and how an automatic was acceptable now.
The first one ever was a front wheel Ford Windstar. That thing was awesome in snow! I couldn't believe it. If you put the tranny in second, it stayed there until you shifted. The Grand Marquis? Um, maybe more like a ski! Even with great snow tires it can be a bit of a thrill to drive when it is slick.
I like manuals, always have and now that I have gotten pretty good at floating gears, I like them even more!
Have you seen all the 4x4s out there with auto trannies? WTHeck are they thinking? Nuff said. Rant over.
I love driving manual, but I will say the only vehicle I would intentionally buy as an automatic is a full size truck. I test drove a single cab Ram 1500 Hemi 6-speed and while I'm sure I could get used to it, I hated it. I understand that the pressure plate needs to be strong enough to hold when towing, so the throw on the clutch was SUPER long. If I'd bought that thing, my left leg would be twice the size of my right by now.
Civic hatchy right Grrr? She looks real nice. I knew there had to be at least a few petrol heads around here.![]()
Thanks Lynn. Now if the damn snow would go away and it would warm up. This winter sucks. Cold, but not enough snow to get the sleds out. My toys need me! Or maybe the other way around...?
I would be more than happy to send you some of the snow that we have gotten here in coastal Maine in the past 7 days. I have no need for here, now if I was a couple of hours north...in the mountains...
