This is the latest on the vaping situation in NC

This is from the official NC website. The smoking ban went into effect 1/02/2010

01/01/2010 SmokeFree.NC.gov (North Carolina Division of Public Health: Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch)
TPCB: SmokeFree.NC.Gov - Frequently Asked Questions

Are electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) allowed under the new North Carolina law that bans smoking in restaurants and bars?

The electronic cigarette is a relatively new product that was not considered when this law was being drafted.

An e-cigarette is a cigarette-like device that does not meet the current definition of smoking in this new state law, which is

“the use or possession of a lighted cigarette, lighted cigar, lighted pipe, or any other lighted tobacco product,” so their use is not prohibited under the new law.

Businesses have the authority to prohibit the use of these products within their business.
It may be in the best interest of a business to prohibit the use of e-cigarettes because:

1) their appearance is so similar to conventional cigarettes that there could be confusion by the public about whether or not the bar is in compliance with the law; and

2) their safety is not yet proven.

Of course pens and pencil are cigarette shaped devices. Guess they will ban those next.

Hate to say it but I am kinda grateful for the ban. I never would have thought to look for a smoking alternative if I could still smoke in bars. I found and ordered the 510 so that I could still get my nic fix when I was out drinking with friends. Much to my surprise I liked the e-cig so much I have not had an "analog" since new years eve. I'll be ...... if NC starts trying to tell me I can't use my e-cig though :)

So far I have only been brave enough to use my e-cig in places that used to allow smoking before the law came into effect. I figure that means that the owners/staff were ok with people smoking they just can't allow it now because it is against the law. So far no one has said anything negative to me. I do have alot of people aking me what the heck it is though lol

If they confuse a blue LED with a cigarette there is a bigger problem...ROFL. Maybe business owners can say "ECigs without red LEDs allowed".
