I was just thinking this weekend that it'd fun to have a clear atomizer. Was kinda thinking whether a test tube could be trimmed to length to do it. Not a project I'm likely to do, but just some idle thought. I'm still working on being able to take 'em apart without killing them, so the reassembly part isn't in the near future.

DH asked about this, but it was to replace the cart. He has been using the clear shell of a pen but those are hard to come by. Some of the pens actually have an after taste too. I'm kind of leery of the Pyrex because of the possibility of breakage.
This is to cover a RN4081 atty so no one makes a clear drip tip or cart for them.
Anyone else come up with a workable tubular possibilities?

I don't see why it couldn't work. Pyrex has a very high temp resistence, hence it's use in the lab. I am pretty sure that any glass that can resist breaking when exposed to a bunson burner can stand atty temp. Remember, pyrex will glow red hot before it melts, and it won't shatter very easily at all.

not a bad idea, if pyrex can be used for glass (ahem) tobacco pipes, I don't see why it could not be used as a mouth piece or cap for the atty. Provided you don't drop it on concrete or tile, it seems to me it would be plenty safe to use. I doubt seriously that the outside of the atty would ever get hot enough to shatter a pyrex tube. Esp. one with a 2mm thick wall. I will do some experimenting and get back if I find anything worth mentioning.

Had the same thing happen to me years back. Had company for dinner and someone put a Pyrex baking dish on a lite burner.
Yep, it broke.
I'm still up in the air about using it.
It's cheap enough, try it. The atty threads doesn't heat up that much (it's the actual coil supported inside that gets hot), and the connector they are screwed into act as a heatsink.

OK folks, I found some 8mm ID lab quality Pyrex tubing (through ebay) and this is what I came up with. I was trying to find something to fit over the L88b or 306 atty, but this was just a hair to large, but it fit over my 4081 atty no problem. I bought the cutting tool with the tubing, so I could experiment. For just an hour or so of tinkering, I tried all my drip tips, none would work, just a little too big to fit inside the tube. The only thing I found that worked was the center cap from a round tip cart, the rubber soft cap from an e2 carto, and the rubber whistle tip from an 801 cart. I was hoping more would be compatible, the glass needs to be either slightly smaller, or slightly larger to work for what I was trying to use it for. I don't have a good way to measure exact ID/OD so I just had to use a ruler. It was not a total waste, since it at least fits the 4081... I have a glass blower friend I will be talking with soon.
