Hi,
My M401 was working wonderfully during the day. Then later in the afternoon it got stuck with the battery on. It got so HOT I think it could have ignited something.
This is obviously not just an inconvenience. I will not be buying any more M401's.

I haven't had this particular problem so far with DSE801, DSE901, or JOYE 510. The 510 with man bat is my hands-down favorite. Other than, of course, it looks more like a cigar than an cigarette :)

So I gave just one more model a try before settling on the 510. That would be the njoy/RN4081, as I could buy one at Sunoco.

I initially thought the njoy was very promising. I thought it had a better draw than the 901. I liked that it was nearly as thick as the 510. Good throat hit, etc.

THEN I read of some safety issues with njoy/RN4081 at ecig forum:

- It can also get stuck with battery on. Poster did not say how hot it got.

- The cap on the mouth piece came off and a poster swallowed it!

So I would REALLY like have some questions answered by tech experts:

1) Opinions on reported safety issues with Njoy/RN4081, particularly with battery sticking ON?

2) Where copld I get RN4081 carts that are single piece (no cap) design?

3) Knowledge/opinion on ANY reported safety issues with the JOYE 510?

I should be out of your hair soon. Maybe to be re-incarnated as a wanna-be-expert. I have certainly paid my dues to earn the title :)

Thanks,
:) Dave W.

You just got a battery with a bad switch. This could happen to any battery. Automatic, or manual, it's a mechanical / electrical device, and anything can go wrong.

As I stated above. Any model can have a switch stick.

- The cap on the mouth piece came off and a poster swallowed it!

They don't make child proof e-cig's, so you have to be careful and use common sense.

So I would REALLY like have some questions answered by tech experts:

Had 1 RN4081 Battery stick. Had 1 M-401 Battery stick. Had 2 EVO batteries stick. Had 1 starter switch on my Dodge Intrepid stick. Had a headlight switch stick & burn up on a Pontiac. Had a cell phone button stick and say 0000000000000000000.

2) Where copld I get RN4081 carts that are single piece (no cap) design?

The only single piece that I know of are the cartomizers.

3) Knowledge/opinion on ANY reported safety issues with the JOYE 510?

Same as the rest.

I should be out of your hair soon. Maybe to be re-incarnated as a wanna-be-expert. I have certainly paid my dues to earn the title :)

Any device will have their faults. Just be careful, don't abuse them, and use common sense. You'll be just fine.

Thanks,
:) Dave W

Hi, Dave,

I've had two stuck switches on 801s. Happened when I just started vaping, and one of them happened when I set the unit down flat. That one actually smoked itself. The other decided to activate in my pocket, and a moment of hilarity ensued with me grabbing it, finding it too hot to hold, and then looking around for somewhere to throw it in case it caught fire.

Right now I have an inexpensive 801 manual switch batt that I'm playing with. The construction of it is not encouraging, as the button looks and feels very flimsy, but it's my out and about VP, so I'll see how it does before I order more.

Thanks for responding, Jim.

I still have some open concerns. Perhaps the forum could help me again.

First, from what I could see about the cartomizers, you may have misinterpreted my question. The NJoy's cartridge plastic housing is in two pieces. This is unlike any cartridge I have seen.

With my clarification, perhaps someone could now point me to RN4081 cartridges that have a single piece plastic housing?

Second, I read elsewhere that a manual switch on the battery does add some assurance that the battery will not get stuck ON. What are some expert opinions about this?

Thanks again,
Dave W.

OHhhhhhhhhhhhh - Are you talking about that tiny little cap on the mouthpiece end?????8-o

The reason that didn't cross my mind, is because I stick a tiny screwdriver in it, and pry it out. To me, they're useless. I throw them away.

I never owned a manual switch, but as an engineer, I can tell you that anything mechanical has a chance of failing. It's just a chance we take.

Just look at how critical NASA is about the space shuttle. And still, they lost two of them. Mechanical reliability is a crap shoot. I can only say, try what you want, and go with what you like.

You should not have told me what you do, Jim. I'm an engineer too. Now I will show no mercy :)

To your knowledge, what is the probability of the 510's manual switch being stuck ON vs. stuck OFF?

Thanks again,
:) Dave W.

Honestly, I couldn't answer that question. I've never seen the actual device, and have no idea how it's constructed.

However, I've had an auto switch apart on a 4081 batt, and they could stick in either position. (Six of one & half dozen with the other on the auto)

It's really amazing how the Chinese design some of this stuff.

Yes Jim it is very interesting.

It seems that the RN4081 combines a lot of my favorite features about the rest of the units I've tried. Drag like the DSE901. Filler location like the M401 making refills very clean (with syringe of course). Wider filler like the 510 for really holding the juice. Width like the 510 for good throat hit and more air around the parts. AND IT LOOKS LIKE A CIGARETTE.

My 510/4081 dilemna is forcing me to stay in "wait and see" mode and I never was very patient. I doubt I'm the only one with this delemna :)

Thanks for all your help.

You could always look for whistle tip cartridges...............the mouthpiece only pops out on people who chew on their carts and can be glued easy enough..If you have a manual switch you should never need to suck hard enough to suck it out anyway.

Some batteries also have a cleaning cycle which will fire the battery up for about 20 seconds as you described and make the pv extremely hot.

I don't know how much you scan the forums, but I'm a loyal RN4081 user. I know there are better, but I just love this thing. I post a lot in the RN4081 Forum. They now have an extended, higher cpapcity cartridge for the 4081. Replacement parts can be obtained cheaply, and they are interchangeable with the DSE103.

I found that the 4081 atomizers seem to work best at 3.8 to 4.0v. I cut my 5v passthrough to 4v and the performance increased drastically.

Just a few extras I thought I'd throw in. Don't have a 510, so I won't comment.

Like Jim, I'm an rn4081 lover myself. Only a couple weeks in, and I've learned quite a bit by trial and error. A couple key concepts to learn by trial and error are necessary to optimize your enjoyment of this device: One is to learn how to lightly repack the spent weak pre-packed cartridges that you get for this device. Stick a straightened paper clip through the cart and push out the inner cart that has the wicking material. You can also remove the little plastic tip part like Jim does if you like or fear that it may fall out; hasn't happened to me, but it's conceivable. Pull out the stock wool material which is (alarmingly) glued down, and put in a little tiny bit of new poly fil material. Determining the optimal amount of new poly fil (the non-flame ......ant poly stuffing that you can get anywhere, like WalMart) is simply trial and error--too much and it will not wick the fluid properly and you will taste burning material after a few draws, and too little and the fluid will spill out of the cart in your mouth or into the battery, drowning and ruining it. The other two hints I would give are to find your fave nic juice, experiment with using non-PG juice from Johnson's Creek or other vendors offering VG based juice, and then also find the best way to draw on the e-cig--it's different than smoking a real cig, but also comes with practice. I get huge vapor for some time on my rn4081 and the batteries seem to last a good while, though I keep a couple charged at all times. Experiment and enjoy!

Thanks waveho. I'm new also. Have you experienced any stomach/throat problems with VG?

For now, I've decided to go with two models. A 510 for normal use. But when looks are important, a M410 or an RN4081.

At any rate, I'll do whatever to keep me vaping. Us smokers have been known to have a hard time with commitment :)

I experienced some sore throat issues only when vaping the pre-packaged carts that had the PG stuff, but since using exclusively the VG stuff from Johnson's Creek I have had no throat issues. I did have an upset stomach a couple times but not sure if it was e-cig juice related. Happy vaping!

The vapor tends to dry the throat. Keep plenty of liquids handy. Vape - Drink - Pee........ repeat as necessary.
