My first e-cig was the DSE901. At top performance - great vape and great flavor. 7 bats dead in a month told me this wasn't working for me.
Loved my usb passthrough.... and realized everything the DSE901 could be was all I wanted.
The key was power. Consistant, every time I puff, no variation, not dead in an hour or a vape that's good followed by a crappy one.... while driving or outside no vape at all.

I bought a ScrewDriver. DSE901 attys fit on the one I bought and it's awesome. Bats last 6-8 hrs and only cost a couple bucks. Plus they're not DEAD after a week or two.

I've seen some awesome mods for sale at about $75 on the classifieds... laser pointers -and if I didn't have the SD I'd be really interested. They use the DSE901 and regular batteries.

Anyway -
I didn't have the money to keep trying a 510 and an 801 and whatever else 'looks' like a cig. They still use unreliable/short life ecig bats and the $$$ invested to try something with the same limitations was just not an option.

And to be honest - I have very small hands, the SD fits nicely and feels comfortable.

Because it DOESN"T look like a cig no one ever hassles me because they think I'm smoking. PLUS - for me the most important thing was replacing real cigarettes not having something that looks like one.

30 years of smoking...
Vaporized by my ScrewDriver!

I am afraid you are way too logical and performance oriented. For those most concerned about appearance, I think the old adage is: you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Good analysis, soupervapor.

WOW! only own a 510, just got mega batts which now last 7 hours, im flaberghasted, with this techno...........look that word up, for those of you that are "new" to this life, also, look up "nugatory", what a great word.............58, and this is the best thing that has happened to my life..........pretty shallow, eh? oh well................this is a great thang!!!!

Yeah me too. With the 510 mega-batt, the 510 is now my hands down favorite among the ecigs I've tried...UHHH...K.I.S.S.

After a few days, I've come to like the looks of the long batts more than the short ones. I got five more mega-batts on order and will just keep the short ones in my car for emergencies.

I want to tell everyone not to waste any money on anything else. But if you are hell bent on putting a lot of money into ecigs, you can send your money to me instead :)

After 4 days of struggle with my 901, today I finally got a consistent vape all afternoon! I´m thrilled! What works for me is a whistle cart (not round one) and VG dilluted juice: 24 mg down to 12. I´m getting loads and loads of vapor, even after running my first battery dead. Of the 4 batts I have in use, some like one atomizer and some others like the other atomizer. The drag is easy, and my mouth is so filled with smoke... Next time I´ll buy unflavored juice and add my own flavor to my taste. My theory is that my juice doesn´t have that much VG and that´s why the atomizer was so hard... Flooded all the time, and the battery failing. Still I think that I´ll get some manual batteries as soon as possible. I think it´s a combination of everything, not just power. The best working batts are my older ones, from my first starter kit. I think that with time I´ll get a consistant vape with a minimum tweaking.

While there are benefits to bigger batteries, variable performance is most likely more due to the juice flow. Possibilities include the cart to metal bridge contact, and the juice thickness (the ideal is slightly thicker than water; too thick or too thin and the performance can become erratic).

VG can be used to add thickness and distilled water or vodka to thin it (only a tiny amount has a big effect).

With automatic batteries (the pressure switch type), the puff strength is important too. Too light a puff may activate power but not pull liquid onto the coil. This is detailed more here:

Hi I'm from Cincinnati.

I've used both the 510 and 901 for a few months. I like the looks of the 901 so I have kept struggling with it. When I started this thread, my last lame idea was to use it with the 901 passthru. Once again it was a disappointment. So the 901 is back on the shelf again. I feel like writing a "do not use" on it so I don't get some other crazy idea to spend any more money it.

On another thread, I had a lot of other experienced people help me come up with this really good setup for getting started:

- 510 starter kit (2 atty's, 2 batt's, charger, 5 carts)
- (2ea) mega power batt's

Total cost should be around $80, from US suppliers.

If you haven't already done so, checkout using your own polyfill and the spring mod so you don't have to buy any more carts. I assume you are already buying your own juice.

Dave

Have you tried the straw mod in your cart yet?
It took me a few weeks before I got so frustrated with the vapor production (or lack there of) to try it. Personally I found that it doubled my vapor production and I dont have to fill my carts every time I turn around.

Sorry I dont know how to post a link to the thread, but Its mentioned here in detail along with a diagram. If you search the term "straw modification" you'll get there.

I haven't tried the straw mod. Maybe I will soon. Thanks,
