Hi guys, just started vaping about 3 weeks ago and haven't had an analog since. This site has been of great help to me when I got started, so just wanted to say a huge thank you to all! My wife who is a social smoker couldn't have been happier and impressed with how vaping has allowed me to completely stop smoking, she was skeptical at first, after seeing me try all sorts of NRTs previously.

So I have a question about, for lack of a better word/vocabulary, the vapour from vaping. I was a APAD smoker and I got started off on the Halo Sub Zero (6mg) e-liquid. It was probably too low on nicotine levels that got me to vaping almost all the time, my wife noticed that I had it on me all the time and was curious why, and I had explained that I wasn't getting enough nicotine and my intention to bring it up to 12mgs, so she was quite supportive and was fine with me vaping in the house & in the car beside her.

A few days back, I got a 70/30 pg/vg, 12mg, Pomegranate flavoured juice which had decent throat hit and apparently sufficient nicotine levels to use it almost as often as I would "go out for a cigarette" which was perfect for me. But my wife started to notice that she was feeling a little nauseated from even the residual smell in the living room/ bedroom. She did not notice any smell from the Halo juice I was on before and was never affected by it.

So I am curious to know if anyone else out there has had similar experiences? I am unsure what in the new juice could be causing this, her sinuses are quite sensitive, but I just don't see how if she never got any reaction from the Halo juice, that she would from this one, and we both like pomegranate a fair bit. So I am a little stumped.

Any Ideas?

Yeah, and in the interest of making sure my vaping does not annoy anyone else in any way, I would just like to be able to try to figure out what in the E-juice blend that could be causing this.

I will be trying out other flavours to see if it helps, but I am really hoping that it is not the nicotine level because I feel that the 12mg is a sweet spot. And as far as I can guess, I don't think PG/VG stays for very long in the air.

other flavours possibly will help - i have a black tea ejuice that makes alot of people gag by the smell of it - but it tastes soooooo good.

nicotine level should have nothing to due with it, if i remember correctly(dont quote me) most if not all the nicotine inhailed is already absorbed into your mouth as you puff, exhailing has no nicotine conent(again.. dont quote me, im just trying to remember)

PG/VG staying in the air. , VG will cloud a room and keep it fogged if it is not aired out. going by that, i would have to "assume" PG also lingers but i would also "assume" not as long as VG.

lot of vapers have a high sensetivity to PG, so if it IS lingering - and your wife is sensitive to it. that may also be an issue.

I tend not to vape around non smokers. My family and friends think that it is great that I quit the nails and support my vaping journey. However, I don't vape around them indoors, as I never exposed them to the smoke from the nails.

I'm the same way! I think it's rude, so I vape outside when I'm in a no smoking get together! GMTA!

I have been vaping for almost 3 years and if I'm awake I am vaping. My sister also vapes. Her favorite e-juice is pomegranate. It smells good but I can't spend much time around it. Not exactly nauseated but uncomfortable. I don't think it is the nic strength of your e-juice that is bothering your wife as much as it is just the odor. HTH

Some flavorings have significant "room smell" to them. My wife can smell some of my juices but not others (various nicotine levels, no correlation). I would just try more flavors, find one that you like to vape and she likes to smell.

My wife is also in charge of buying the juice, so this helps greatly with the SAF (Spouse Approval Factor).

I would say CONGRATS! Maybe a baby is on the way? :)

Just kidding. I don't think it's the nic content causing your wife's nausea. Probably the flavorings. I vape primarily 24-36mg unflavored, and my family hasn't complained of any nauseousness. But you never know as each individual would have different reactions/tolerance to nicotine.

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah, when I started, I had always thought that it is only fair that if I didn't smoke analogs indoors, I shouldn't take it for granted that I can vape indoors. The SAF (Spouse Approval Factor) is a big deal to us too =), it is just a matter of balancing the number of times I go away for a smoke (she doesn't like that so much), and if the smell gets to her.

I guess for now, until I run out of the pomegranate, I will have to do it more discreetly, and then find a flavour that does not linger like the mint.

Thanks for your input guys!

My beautiful wife has never smoked or vaped. She has terrible allergies and sinus issues. I vape around her all the time. In fact, when I make a new flavor, she asks me to blow it in her face so she can smell it. She's hardly ever had any adverse reaction to my vape. There is a Burley extract that gives her fits, but it also makes me wheezy, so it's been 86'd from the liquid arsenal.

There was a study that showed it an enclosed space that 1/10 of the nicotine is exhaled by vapor than from cigarettes, and the same study showed no measurable carcinogens in exhaled vapor. Check CASAA.org

Congrats on your success! :toast:

I just had a conversation with her about this and to her the smell of cigarette smoke is still by far much worse. So I guess even the pomegranate is the lesser of two evils.

I just think it is awesome that I get to vape at all. So I'm not going to take things for granted, and try to find a way to work out something that doesn't annoy the wife

My suggestion would be try a different flavor with the same PG/VG nic ratio. If she doesn't have a reaction, you then know it is the flavor that caused the initial problem.

You can still use up that flavor by vaping it when she isn't around or outside only. Just don't buy it again.

My hubby is a never smoker and also suffers from allergies, multiple allergies. My vaping never bothers him. Even on long car trips with windows up and me doing moderate clouds. Nothing to fill the car, but enough to haze up the immediate area.

He could not tolerate cigarette smoke....at all!

So we figured it out, the smell of the pomegranate flavoured juice, unless you are vaping it, smells like rotten mangoes! Lol.

Now I feel bad about starting a whole thread and then eventually figuring it out ourselves, I had some juice leak out into the airtight container where i keep all my juices, and when I opened it today I almost threw up! But thanks for the input guys!
