I currently use an KR808 D1 but I'm considering buying an eGO or Joye 510 because I'm finding that after boiling my cartomizers they don't seem to work very well, its like trying to suck-start a Harley (no, I've never tried, but I'm imagining), I've even used little GUM brushes to try to get any gunk out of them but to no avail. Also my KR808 batteries seem to get weak fast and have a short "draw time" (sorry I'm not hip on all the terms yet.) So I've been looking into the 510 with cartridges and from what I understand the attys are really the only thing to replace on those and they go out maybe after a month or 4? If I got one with 5 cartridges I could just rinse them and/or replace the polyfill but they would potentially last forever? Is that correct?

Also, on the eGO, it comes with 2 attys but says you can also use them with certain cartos, so how would you assemble the thing without the atty? Just screw a carto on where the atty would normally go?

Lastly, on the eGO or the Joye 510, is there a limited drag time where it cuts off after 5 seconds or anything like that, I hate getting cut off mid-drag.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm driving myself batty searching all over the forum.

Don't boil your cartomizers. I've explained how to flush out cartos in one of my blogs.

Answers to your last 2 questions: yes and no

Also, get a Joye eGo kit (either 650mah, 750mah, 900mah, or 1000mah -- the higher the mah, the longer the battery will last before needing to be recharged) -- or a Riva or Tornado kit (which are generic eGos).

The battery life will be your first concern (at some point in your vaping experience, if not already). After a few days of charging batteries all day long, you won't care what the PV (personal vaporizer) looks like.

The eGo battery is the most popular and has the longest life of any of the standard e-cigs available currently.

Check out the following sites for prices and availability. Look for a starter kit that's priced around $30 to $60. Ask here if you have more questions. Read more threads in the Newbie Section here. A lot of people have given advice to a lot of newbies with the same questions.

There are over 100 Rivas left, mostly in black at Liberty-Flights
Electric Cigarette Shop - Product Listing
Scroll down to Riva 510 and click .

I've bought 2 Rivas from LF and they are wonderful PVs. I was a heavy smoker and the regular 510 just didn't do it for me. I had to switch batteries every 2 hours.

I also have an Ego 900mah and a VGO 900mah, even better battery life but for the price, you cannot beat the Riva.

Right now, I have found my perfect combo. The Riva/Ego/VGO batteries with a Royal Smoker regular size 510 CE2R4 3 ohm cartomizer with a drip tip. I am in vaping heaven. I stress the regular size because the XL seems to have a wicking problem and if you're going to use a PV with a cone, the size of the regular with an added drip tip is perfect.

Just ordered a Riva...I'm super excited just to see what the difference is, I love vaping even more than I had anticipated. I thought it would just a tool to keep me off analogs but I really enjoy it and its more of a hobby. Anyway, got the Riva ordered and I'll let everyone know how that goes. I'm also going to try cleaning some of my other brand cartos since I realized I've only cleaned one brand and had trouble with it, I'll go back and clean the others and see if they give me any trouble. Either way, got the Riva on the way and I still have my KR808-D1....should be good to go. Thanks everyone for all your help! I'm sure I'll be back with questions once the Riva arrives. May even try to learn the "dripping" technique later on.

Dawn, make sure you blow as much water as you can out of your cartos and then put them in the oven at about 250 for 20 minutes or so, or wrapped in a sock in the dryer. The main problem with cartos not producing after they've been cleaned is that there is still water in the filler material.

I've tried boiling them and blowing all the water out of them, I've done the Taryn spin, I've flushed them with a syringe and then forced air thru them again with the syringe to get all the water out of them. It seems like they're clogged. I've put them in front of a fan for 8 hours after blowing as much of the water out as possible, then they're still clogged. When I look thru one end of a carto I can't see light at the other end, so I tried getting the gunk out with those GUM Butler toothpick things with bristles, still nothing. Its irritating because I've watched all the videos on every possible way to clean a carto and mine just don't work after I clean them, no matter which method I used to clean them. Only thing I haven't tried is letting them sit in Everclear but I'm not sure if thats for cartos or atomizers so I didn't mess with it...Plus I'm more of a tequila girl! Haha I hope I can get at least a few cartos cleaned and working to last me until I get my Riva in the mail, I'll be in trouble if I don't figure out something, I'm down to my last new carto now. If you have any more suggestions, let me know.

How long have you had the cartos that seem to be clogged? How many times have you refilled them? Are you filling them with real thick juice?

Using the flushing method that I've described in my blog should work well to remove all juice. They should be allowed to dry for 2 to 3 days in front of a fan (8 hours isn't long enough. I did a test with a filter that I could take out, and it was still damp after 2 days in front of a blowing fan). I would avoid drying them in a dryer or an oven. I would avoid boiling them. The syringe plunger needs to be used several times to force all the old juice out, like flush water through them about 15 times back and forth and then about 25 times without pushing water through them (just air) to remove all the excess water. But if cartos have been filled over 12 times or so and have been used for 2 to 3 weeks, it might be time to dispose of them and start with new cartos.

Also, the cartos you put in boiling water are probably degraded too much to use. I don't think there's any point in trying to revive those. I've tried, gave up, since they had been refilled several times, with filters shrunk up due to the boiling water, so I quit using them and have only been using newer cartos that I haven't boiled and only flush when I think they're too clogged and blowing through them doesn't help to unclog them.

In other words, I no longer overfill cartos and will only drip in about 10 to 12 drips when refilling them. If they're really empty, I'll drip no more than 15-16 drops into them. Any more than that will clog them, making them hard to vape, with little vapor -- and needing to be flushed (if blowing through them doesn't remove the excess juice, which it usually does). The more they are flushed, the more degraded they'll become, so I try to avoid having to flush them in the first place. Just refill and refill for about 3 or 4 weeks, and then start using new cartos. This is my current system of using cartos.

I would say the cartos are all have no more than 4 days' use out of them (to me they taste funny after a few days of topping off) and had never been cleaned until I cleaned them all at once, some were boiled so I'll probably just throw those out now, some were flushed, then pushed air from the syringe thru them, then let them dry. On the ones I flushed, I think they're working now. I read someone else's post about turning the circle on the bottom of the carto 1/4 turn counter clockwise and it seems to have worked. I also have about 7 cartos with nasty juice in them that have never been used so I'll flush those and see how they work. Hate to flush a new carto and shorten the life but I won't use them with that juice in there, so I've gotta do it. Also, as I re-read your post, I know I've overfilled some of my cartos, I get a little crazy when I know I'm going to be out all day and top a few off and sometimes overfill them, so I'll need to be more careful of that, as well. I don't have all this down to a science yet!

Dawn - That's weird that they taste funny to you after four days. I've been rotating the same 20 cartos (Boge 510) for almost a month, and they still taste fine to me. A few of them have been flushed (maybe five or so, didn't keep track), and I've noticed no funky taste with any of them, except for one that tasted burnt after I refilled it and let it sit for a few hours. That one was discarded into a baggie that I'm keeping for whatever unknown reason. Perhaps if I refilled the same carto over and over and used only that carto for four days, it would start tasting funky. I don't know, I like rotating about 15 to 20 cartos for a few weeks.

I don't think just flushing with warm or hot tap water will shorten the life of cartos. It hasn't seemed to do that here, and I haven't noticed any shrinkage, as long as the water isn't boiling.

Everclear is actually being used for cartos, I've been using it since the beginning. I figured if it's sometimes used as a component in juice, it wouldn't be that bad if I didn't get it all rinsed out.

I've still got old kanger cartos left over from when I first started vaping, had to hunt them down last night to use with my Riva 901. The newer design wouldn't fire. I've also got premiums from V4L, Cool Carts, Golds, Turbos, you name it. I soak them in Everclear for an hour, boil them for 15, blow the water out and then bake them to get them thoroughly dry. I've lost maybe a quarter of them after cleaning, mostly the Kangers, with some on their 4th cleaning. I get a week out of some cartos, 3 to 4 if I'm really lucky, 2 to 3 days if I'm not. Guessing I don't notice a lot of flavor change because I DIY and use mostly mints and cinnamon, although some days I wonder if my taste buds have truly ever recovered.

deback is correct though, 8 hours in front of the fan isn't going to be enough, they're probably still damp inside.

I really don't think there's a particularly wrong cleaning method as long as what you're using is safe and works. Different things work for different people, you just have to find what works for you or move to a different system. Since you're moving to attys hopefully you'll like them. :)

The ego battery has two sets of threads, for screwing on different cartos and attys. The larger ones use the outside threads.
The only thing I've found that uses the outside threads is the cone/cover for the 510 attys. The Mega Cylinder atty uses the inside threads, and the outside flushes. Same with the Mega Cartos, which makes them too weak for me as the plastic will break. The Mega Cone atty is the only one I haven't tried.

IME, the 510 carts will melt. The Mega Cylinder carts have never melted. The Mega Cartos will melt around the internal atty if they get too hot. The Mega Cylinder atty & cart is the best I've found.
