I build anywhere between .5 - .8 on my drippers with 24 - 28 gauge. Mostly single coils.

I noticed when placing the back of my hand directly below the spring on the outside of the Reo mod I could feel a small spot where it was getting hot when firing. The bad kind of hot. Checked my atty and resistance, everything was fine. It was firing throughout this time as well but noticeably weaker. My guess is there was a short happening somewhere. Button itself was not hot at all.

I unscrewed the spring, cleaned out what seemed to be a little juice in the area, and tightened it down well. The small sharp spot where I was feeling heat is now gone and it's firing a lot stronger now both visually and from what my inline meter is reading.

What I really want to know is what most likely was causing this? It only started happening after I cleaned out the insides once and I'm guessing maybe I had not tightened down the spring well enough? Or was it the little amount of juice sitting around in there? I'd just like to know to prevent this from happening in the future, I'm not faulting the mod at all.

I think you're right about the screw not being tight enough. The heat you're describing is coming from a poor connection. Many reo users, including me, scrape the paint off where the screw contacts the mod to eliminate the possibility of a bad connection. I also put a little deoxit between the spring and mod and on the screw for improved continuity. Hope this helps.
