i started rebuilding my wicks today using 32 GA kanthal A1 wire and 3mm Silica wick. At 4 wraps around the wick im getting about 3.5 ohms and at 5 wraps im getting 2.8 ohms. Problem im having is im having to crank the voltage up on my battery to get a decent hit. I did burn both wick and wire with butane torch before making the wicks. Should i go to more wraps or lower the wraps ...im not sure which produces more heat higher ohms or lower ohms. all ohms readings were taken after the head was done and wires clipped and ready for use...thanks alot

Doesn't make sense to me that you're getting lower ohms with more wraps, so I'm wondering if your 4 wrap coil had a short or something? A trick I learned here was to wrap your coil around a 4-40 machine screw, the wire following the threads in the screw, so they're perfectly spaced out. I think when I was doing that, I was doing 5 wraps and getting about a 2.2 ohm coil.

(edited that to say LOWER ohms with more wraps) More wraps = more ohms

More Wraps = More resistance
Your numbers are opposite. Typo or inconsistent diameter.
If you're wrapping around the wick, It may be too tight.
Try wrapping around something like a nail or drill bit that's a hair bigger than the wick, then feeding the wick through it.

Lower resistance (less total wire) would give you a higher wire temperature (at the same voltage).

Been a while since I've rebuilt a nova head, but here's what I would try:
3mm wick = .118 inches
Wrap around a 1/8" (.125) drill bit

Checked my wife's nova (powered by a twist) that she's happy with and it's 2.3 ohms
3.5 wraps (4 on top, 3 on bottom) should give you about 2.16 ohms
4.5 wraps (5 on top, 4 on bottom) should give you about 2.62 ohms
From these numbers you can see that each wrap adds about 1/2 ohm, adjust to preference.
There's some coil calculators somewhere, maybe someone will post a link.

The wick seems large to me and the tight head slot (~1/16 inch) may be restricting juice flow. You could enlarge the slot or get a smaller wick if the above doesn't help.
