Question about tanks and cardos for an eVic

I have decided on an eVic for now due to the USB charging ability. My question now is how open am I to tanks? I have always used ProTanks and Vivis so I just buy the replacement heads and keep going. I am looking around at different tanks, but I don't want to get into rebuilding (yet). Alot of tanks seem to use the tube style cartomizers, and I don't know how universal they are. Do I need to get certain size tanks that are more universal for the cartos or what?

And as a side question, what diameter tank fits flush on the eVic?

If you get a flat top cap for the eVic a 22mm tank sits on it seamlessly. The eVic is 22mm. A pro tank looks right with the tapered top cap.

How about the cartos? Are they pretty much universal? Or do I need to worry about the height of them? I see alot of IBTanks that are short tanks, and I really like the look of those. Shorter cartos I am assuming?

They are. They all use tank cartos - which are a standard 510 connection to the eVic. If you are looking at tanks you just need to pay attention to whether it's made for XL length or standard length cartos as that will impact what cartos you can use and where you can find them. The obvious is: The tank will be longer for XL cartos.

As far as aesthetics goes: The standard eVic top cap is 20 mm across. You can get a flat cap to replace it that is 22 mm across. Different folks get more - or less - bent out of shape trying to match their topper diameter to their PV diameter.

First purchase for your eVic should be a tank support.
Use it always to help prevent 510 threading damage from over tightening.
Screw a topper on just to the point it reads on the eVic. Look at the gap. Remove topper and adjust support to fill the gap.

And I noticed on IBTanks that they have a "halfling" size carto. I guess this is what is needed for their shorter tanks?

A 22mm IBTanked looks great on an Evic, Vamo, or Provari. You can get three lengths of tank at IBTanked, of which each will use a different length cartomizer (halfling, standard, or XL).

Yes.
You can screw the tank in until it just reads and then unscrew the cap to press against the tank for support but that leaves a gap where you'll feel it.

You really don't need a flat cap. They look fine with the taper and a 22mm tank.

Yes, you are thinking wrong. You are assuming all tanks will have the same depth from the contact pin(+ connection) to the tank base. Not only that, Carto tanks often ride on the Cartomizer and can move slightly up/down.

That makes perfect sense!

Now as for IBTanked tanks, the caps are not threaded at all are they? They appear to just have orings and press together. I have also looked at Phiniac tanks, and they suggest a "tank tool." It's only 4 bucks, but I am wondering why? And how does it help with filling the tank? I am used to taking off the top cap, filling, and puting the cap back on.

Over tightening pushes the pin until it no longer makes contact.

IMO the lack of base support allows every little bump and hit to stress the ultra-fine 510 threads until they give out. This is made worse by constantly screwing attys on and off.

510 was great for cartos. It's great for cross compatibility. It's not so great to have a 7mmx.5mm thread supporting 22mm x 45mm-ish objects. 510 probably should've went away with eGo sized batteries for a larger diameter and coarser threads.

However, as I discovered making my bowstring jig, this can be worked around with more base support.

I use Nautilus tanks on my eVic, and have a Kangor T3S for use with sample juices. With the slimmer tanks its best to unscrew the top piece otherwise unscrewing the tank could lead to unintended consequences
