Hello,

I had a bad experience with vapingzone.com, I found a new vendor, I ordered some flavorings. I was using super concentrated flavorings from VZ. On the label it says to use 2.5%. These new flavorings aren't super concentrated. I am majoring in chemistry/biochemistry, I know how to make solutions and mix things that's not the problem. My question is how do people usually test out the proper volume to add to the flavorings with out getting math heavy.

A cheap example of what i am trying to avoid
Lets say I mix 25% PG, 25% VG, 25% nicotine, 25% flavoring.

I fill my tank, the juice isn't strong enough. So I put the juice from the tank bank in to the squeeze bottle. I add some more flavoring. Doing this will increase the volume of my juice but lower the concentration of everything else. To do this in an analytical fasion it gets math heavy which i am trying to avoid. So what is the common way to know the proper amount of flavoring to add?

I would first get a good calculator I use http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/480587-new-calculator-try.html

Then find or create a recipe start with only 1 flavor. If you use TFA Flavors you can check HERE to see what a good starting point is. But make small batches without Nicotine 3-5ml. If I'm using a flavor that I have no information on I'll mix 3 batches at 2,5,and 10% Then I can mix those (taking 1ml out and mixing with one of the others) and see how it performs at 2,3.5,5,7.5 and 10%. If I believe it to be a weak flavor I do the same process but mix the batches at 10, 15, and 20%.

Hope this helps.

Since you've vaped some and then poured it from the test tank back into the bottle, let's concentrate on getting the flavor right. Write down how much add'l flavoring you add. Adding (.10) ml (another 2.0%) to 5ml is not going to throw off the nicotine level very much. You can adjust for nicotine in your final mix when the percentages of all components, X, Y, Z, should add up to 100%.

nic solution to make (??mg/ml) = (X) mls = (x) % of 5ml sample . This is a fixed volume. It doesn't change.
100% = (X) % + flavoring (Y) % ( 2.5%-5%+) + % VG/PG needed (Z) . The percent of VG/PG will change in relation to the % of flavoring

.05 ml of 5ml = 1%
.10 ml of 5ml = 2%

Have fun!

Okay i see what you're doing, just focusing on VG/PG first, those are what really matter not so much the nicotine.

Thanks

I checked out that calculator. It's cool, it has a tool in it that solved the issue I have. It has a tool called "Modify Existing Recipe" You can write a recipe e.g. 2.5% flavoring 10 ml total juice. I can put a few ml in my tank test it out. And see how much juice I have left and mesure it out with a graduated cylinder. If I have 6ml left, I can modify the recipe, starting out with 6ml and making 10ml with 5% flavoring. It will do the calculations and tell me how much of each component I need to add to hit my target. thanks that's what i am looking for.

I think I am going to have to Bookmark this new Calculator to try and give it a whirl next time I am making recipes!

I usually just add a few more drops of flavoring to my small batches, assuming that giving the small concentration of bases & flavorings and the actual amount of flavoring I am adding is so miniscule (adding 1-2 drops) shouldn't affect the Overall ratio's to significantly in the grand scheme of things.

That was my idea before i posted. I use a phone app, I do all my mixing in my garage, It was hassle taking my laptop out there to use calculators on my laptop.

I have been using this calculator since I started DIY. It has been updated many times since and just keeps getting better. I think it is by far the best juice calculator available. It just has so many tools included that makes my juice making so easy.

Just an update: I got the perique today and the virgina, I tried the perique, it's good. The dilution calculator didn't work. I made 15ml of 2.0%, it was a little weak. I tried to use the calculator to bump it up to 2.5%, and it just didn't work. I just added 3 drops to the 15mls, it's good.

ETA: yeah the amount to mix i input was wrong, so the program works fine.
