Can I plug it into the USB wall adapter that came with my ACE kit? Are all USB wall adapters the same, like iphone/ipod ones, too?

I ordered the extension cable too, but having even more flexibility would be nice :)

no.

check the specs. 5v 2a wall adapter should work great.

Not all wall adapters will work.

5V is pretty standard, but I'm pretty sure USB 2.0 doesn't even go up to 2 amps? Thought they were 500mA. That's why some external hard drives have you take up 2 USB ports or use a wall outlet for power.

Negative, they go to 2amps (maybe higher), which is the best place to be for the PS PT. The power output of whatever you plug it into determines how much actually goes through the wire. Most USB devices will only draw 5v .5amp, so that may be where your confusion is.

"A unit load is defined as 100 mA in USB 2.0, and was raised to 150 mA in USB 3.0. A maximum of 5 unit loads (500 mA) can be drawn from a port in USB 2.0"
They actually have special commercial USB ports to plug in things that need more power, or, like I mentioned, some external hard drives will plug into multiple USB ports to get the current they need.

I've actually read problems where people try to use a 2A external drive and end up frying their USB ports or even worse their motherboard. They ARE only rated for 5V 500mA..

Has anybody actually confirmed that the PS PT is pulling 2A from a USB port with a multimeter? If it is, that's really closely riding the border of safety, depending on the quality of your PSU.

I found a 5V 1A adapter lying around.. none of the others get even that high..

Thanks Pyriel!

And yeah, I think the PT is getting closer to the edge of the specs, but if it's the only real thing you're using, the PSU's should be able to handle it just fine. Strange that it keeps the modem going but drops the signal like that!

Got my PS PT today, and it's working sooo well. I love it! I think I'll be getting some sort of wall wart for it, but I really don't have anything else running on USB anyway, so it seems quite fine for now.
