It is not that tough to make coils. Do your reading on the threads and you will know just what to buy.
Most use kanthal wire 28-34 gauge. You can buy small amounts of each, reosmods has some. Test a few and see what fits the ohms you want.

Wicks are personal preference. I use cotton usually. Again you can buy small amounts and see what you like.

I like coils from 1-1.5 on my mechanical REO's. You will just have to try different ohms and see what hits your sweet spot.

If this is your first RBA, I would go with silica at least in the beginning. I remember how awesome cotton tasted, but the first few weeks I kept forgetting to squonk it in time and burnt about 3-4 wicks per day. It got frustrating a bit.

30-32 gauge is easiest to work with, I think. It's sturdy enough to stay in place, but you don't have to build an overly large coil with the tick 28ga wire.

I would recommend those to start with until you get more comfortable, and then definitely play with other materials and wires.
