Question for Kayfun Lite or Russian 91% Owners

Hi everyone, I'm a recently reformed smoker who's been using ecigs since the beginning of the year and have been loving it. I recently got a kayfun Lite clone from Amazon using a giftcard I was given and I've been having issues with it not wicking consistently. After some closer inspection I noticed that the juice channels weren't cut very deep or even completely joined. I work as a machinist so I got the deck set up in our milling machine at work and cut the channels deeper using a 1/16 inch ball endmill. After doing that I've had about two good wick setups, but nothing consistent. I keep looking at pictures of the original Kayfun and Russian 91% and notice that their channels seem a bit wider and deeper than what I've done so far.

So, my question to anyone who owns a Kayfun Lite or Russian 91% is this: What is the width and approximate depth of the juice channels for either of these devices? I'm hesitant to cut the channels on mine any larger and risk ruining the deck without some feedback first.

Thanks for any input or advice!

Just the way they are from the factory has always worked for me, How is your wicking? Your wick I'm assuming is cotton, shouldn't touch the channels at all, they are only to be right above them on the sidewall below the coil. assuming your juice is on the wick already you should just stick them to the wall below the coil right above the channel and be good to go. Wish we could see a picture of your setup to help more.

He's only got this 1 post at the moment I'm thinking he may not be able to post pics yet... Not sure of rules. I have the Russian 91% but it's currently screwed together being vaped. The channels are not very wide or deep though, seems you need just enough space for juice to flow.

To mention it I do not even own a proper tool for accurately measuring anything that small. Perhaps you can keep looking at pictures and comparing. It's a pressure system so as long as the juice can get through I think you'd be ok.

Maybe it's time you bought a better clone or perhaps buy the real deal?

I have a KFL+ & wick with cotton. I didn't modify the channels but run my wick maybe a few millimeters down either side of the channels, then screw on the atomizer chamber to keep the wick in place. No leaks (through the adjustable air hole) or dry hits doing it that way and has been consistent draws.

not exactly precise measurements, and no idea of depth.. but I had to re-wick and took a couple pics for you

Just my 2 cents but the size of the channels is most likely not the problem. Probably TOO MUCH wick is. I have found better and more consistent wicking and haven't had a dry hit since I started using less wick. I use cotton yarn. Just one strand doubled over and NOT cut on the loop side. The loop hangs above the deck and channel on one side not touching and the other side I trim so they hang above the deck not touching. After filling it I also unscrew the top cap almost all the way and screw it back down. You can see a bunch of air bubbles if you are using the clear mid section. You need to get that air out of the chimney for it to wick right. I've run as low as .5 ohms like this with no dry hits.

If you only have silica lurking about and an absence of cotton then look up the "navy nest" method which is a real belts and braces method of wicking and it really is a good standard way to go with eko or silica in my opinion, I've had my KFL for about 2 months now and am on second wicking, I could of cleaned it but it was a strong blackcurrant juice in there so just whipped in a new wick and it really does keep the flow going good.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sunnata, I think you've answered my question perfectly, thank you! Looks like the channels are two different sizes. The one on the base looks to be about 3/16 of an inch, while the one on the side looks to be a bit over 1/16 of an inch. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of mine before I cut the channels, but they were nowhere near what Sunnata's pictures show.

Thanks for the wicking advice. I've tried many different setups and even with less wick I still haven't gotten any good results. My clone is a chinese knock off, so I know that's part of the problem, but it didn't cost me anything, and I have the ability to fix it. Now that I have some target dimensions to shoot for I'm hoping that the larger channels will help.

Did you do this yet and did it work. I'm having the same issues. I've tried everything I'm at 18 setups in two days. No matter how I do my coil or my wick. I've tried diff coil id and nothing. I use 50/50 lol so it's not thick. But every pic I see the channels look huge compared to mine. I contacted my vendor they asked for pics. I sent them pics of how I set it up and he said looked good. So I'm thinking ok this time I got it. Lol. Nope burnt cotton again. I tried vv/vw devices and mechs I tried 1.0ohm to 2.5 and nothing. I swear it's due to small channels. He sent me a pic of his and his looked huge (says he didn't alter them) and that mine look normal lol. Even my wife (non vapor with the iq of room temperature bologna) can tell the diff. I get better results with my evod or protank mini. Lmao. So I been wanting to dremel mine out too and curious to know if this worked for you as well

Cutting the channels deeper worked out pretty well for me. I don't get any more dry hits and it wicks like a dream. I didn't use a dremel to fix mine though. I was able to use the milling machine at work to to cut the channels with 2 different end mills, but with a steady hand you should be able to carve yours out a bit deeper. If you look at the pics that Sunnata posted on the first page it will give you an idea of how far to go.
