I have never used a factory build atomizer, but have seen from removal that the coils are usually uneven, too much slack or too tight.

you might want to hop on youtube or search here on how to rebuild the atomizer.

with that said on my protanks, I get dry hits every so often. I have also have a anyvape BCC which uses protank and evod atomizers which has never given me a dry hit. I also recently bought a bunch of x9 protank clones that have never given me a dry hit. I like my clones better than my protank, but they look similar.

is your juice really thick? some people remove one of the top flavor wicks. Maybe you have two bad coils as well.

I second this. Really thick juices have trouble wicking on the protank, but removing the top flavor wick helps.
Also, try letting your juice soak into your wicks by leaving the ProTank upright for a few minutes before vaping.

I am personally done with the ProTank. I have the same issue as you with the burnt taste and the metalic taste from time to time. If you really want to use the ProTank then this is what I recommend you do. Rotate your coils every time you fill. So you start off with a fresh coil and full tank, when it's time to refill, replace the coil with a new one and refill. Then rinse the old old coil in hot water and leave it to try over night. This is the only method that has worked for me but the metalic taste is there from time to time.

Any way, if you want a pure solution to all this, buy the PuriTank.
