How awesome is that?

I know I may joke from time to time, but seriously... We're very lucky to have this guy!

I've noticed the same thing with mine....but I don't really mind. It's beautiful anyway. But....if you figured out something that I could do, I'd do it. I've wondered about something like (this may sound really stupid because I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about at all) clear coat that you would get for a car, say. Would that maybe work at all...or is that just a really dumb thing???

My Red Stabilized is still shiny but I just really started using it almost full time a few weeks ago. And I'm using another REO and three tube mods with tanks. I do keep Howard's on all the woods and Briwax on top of that. Briwax leaves a bit harder finish.

I haven't used the Briwax on Stabilized, though, as I was unsure about using the Briwax that might have a petroleum distillate in it and afraid of any potential reaction with the unknown finish on Stabilized.

When buffing the wax be sure to use a fabric that doesn't remove the wax. I use thin flannel, workshop towels for buffing. Microfiber takes too much of the wax off.

The bottom of my Red Stabilized never was as shiny as the rest and doesn't buff up as shiny.

I think Gil, Unsure, may have used something on one of his Stabilized, that clouded up the finish. (If I'm remembering correctly.)

I think we need to clear it with Robert and the person Gil has contacted before we use anything questionable. Several of us use the Howard's so we think it is probably oaky. But, time and experience will tell. There are a lot of things that can react with finishes and/or remove them. That's why I haven't used the Briwax on Stabilized.

Damn, speaking of ....... My Red Stabilized is 801 native. The IKV Mini 801, 1.8 ohm needed 100% VG to vape to my liking. I have a tall IKV 801 2.2 ohm on it now. The bottle just ran out so I filled it with 50/50 I have sitting here. Just spilled juice all over my shirt when I tipped REO too much. I obviously overfilled. It's pretty easy to do when you move from 100% VG to 50% and don't pay attention. AND the 801 attys can be messy like that.

ok, i had a very nice conversation with rob tonight and the awesome guy he is offered to let me send it back to him and he would just refinish the whole thing for me. knowing rob is up to his ears hooking us up with the the vv and the metal 18490 among other things i ask if it was something i might be able to do myself so as not to bother his work. he was kind enough to walk me through the process.... again, letting me know if i wasnt comfortable doing it to send it to him. fortunately i am comfortable and dont mind doing it at all i just wanted to make sure i didnt put something on it that would damage it. sooo, i plan on stripping it down all the way, cover the internals and cup and button and refinish with a few thin coats of polyurethane. i will have to double check on cure time but it should turn out good as new. like rob im a stickler on perfection and will make sure i get it right...... also was told if im not happy with the job i do on it that the offer to send it to him and have him do it stands. how many people stand behind their product like that? after talking to rob he is exactly the person i envisioned him to be in reading all the reo threads.

It's true Alice (damn woman you got a good memory) :) I just got word back from the supplier we get the stabilized wood from and to make a long story short he wasn't much help. I showed him before and after pics and tho he is sure its not his process he is not on the finishing end of the business. Anyway I forward the email to Rob and he said he knows the best way so lets leave it to Rob to do it OR......trying venturing out on your own can get from this to this....do you want mess and guess or let the expert handle it....just say'n. Wish I had.....and I'll still never sell the original Nebula....(might clone it tho) :)

Well when it comes to our REOs my memory certainly shines through. And I'm blonde, ADHD, and drain bamaged, and gett'n to be an old broad, too... I now, get to plead Old Timers when I'm being lazy. Gotta keep priorities straight.

There will never be another Nebula. Period!!!

What is it that you used on Nebula that caused the clouding? If Rob is using polyurethane I wouldn't expect the Briwax to affect the finish. I would like to use it on Red Stabilized but I'm going to wait until after the Vape World Celebration next week. It will certainly give a hard finish and I've used it on plenty of Wood REOs and antiques, finished and bare and some with very old original finishes. Woods are so individual in what they "like" and their ability to absorb or allow finishes to "cling" to them. As Roberts said, "it's a learning process." As each block of stabilized is unique, I would expect different blocks to act differently to the very same finishing process. It would be interesting to know how each color block of stabilized REOs are fairing to use and maintenance, and what maintenance is being used on them.

Wow, good for you. For some of us it would be a pleasurable experience. And, yes, we have so many reasons to love and admire our Robert.

Word of advise. Keep the bottle on to prevent anything getting into the tube, cap, and around the cap 0-ring. I made the mistake of taking the bottles off when I soaked all my WOODs in Howard's. I still haven't gotten them all cleaned out including the catch cups and threads. Now, for general waxing, I use kitchen cling wrap on the catch cup. Not sure if it will stand up to solvents, though.

We want progress reports, please, and step by step pictures for sure.

Hugs, Alice

I was soooooooo wanting to preserve its looks I read all over the net to find what I thought was the best Minwax 30100 32oz Gloss Tung Oil. BIG MISTAKE!! I had Lenny and Rob both try to bring it back to it original glory but the damage was done. :( So let this be a lesson to those who think you know better.....this isn't ordinary wood. That being said I'd never sell it and it works like the day I got it. No matter what....as my sig says....."Its the very first Stabilized REO Woodvil EVER made"!!!
