Hey all,
Awhile back I introduced myself, and i'm not a big poster, so this is the only place I can post for the time being.
So, my question is about my next step. I have an e-cig shop right up the street from me, but I'd love to hear some personal experiences.
I started with the v2 cigs (808s), then to Kanger eVod, and now i'm ready for something new. I saw they have a "box" style battery, but i don't find them aesthetically pleasing, and don't think they would be good in my pocket. I did see a slightly larger version of the eVod, but with a bigger voltage spectrum and digital display. Not sure what they're called(it was a name-brand), but does that seem like a viable next step for a more fulfilling vape? I think it went from 3.3v to 12v output.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

In this day and age I would aim for a 30W device (as you've already done the evod/ego/vision type kits). This would allow you to vape the most popular tanks (atlantis v2 & subtank). Because it's adjustable, you can also vape all the older tanks you've used.

Most high wattage mods are in box format (we're talking 50W+), it makes sense when you consider battery technology, but smaller form factor definitely exists.

VV | VW Mods – Vapordelphia | Philly vape store

Vapordelphia has the eLeaf iStick 30W for $38. You could get it cheaper if you order it online.

Bobby Ryan is ours forever.

The recommended step up would be a box mod, like the Istick 30. They are actually easier to put in your pocket than an evod set. Although they look bulkier, the height is about the same, if not shorter, than what you have now. It is what I would recommend, because it allows you more customization. I just got through posting a message about the differences between a box and a tube mod. the box style allows the battery in the mod, then they put the electronics beside the battery. With a tube mod, the electronics have to go above or below the mod itself. So, you'll end up with a taller unit, but thinner than a box mod. Taller units stick out more in your pocket, and are easier to bend.

If you insist on getting a tube mod, then something like the Aspire CF sub ohm might be an option.

It is still bigger than your evod kit, but it will behave very much like your evod. the exception being the vapor that comes out will be more.

I started with V2 as well - lasted 5-6 months, just until the "lifetime warranty" expired. Then I moved on to Smokeless Image cigalikes (much better quality), then onto Spinners and Evods et al. Got into rebuilding Kanger heads, but got sick of the small decks, so moved on to RBAs with REAL decks and mechs after that, but I sure wish these were around back then, which I'm eying right now:

$56.97 Authentic Kanger SUBOX Mini Black Starter Kit - 1*18650 / 4.5ml / 0.5ohm / 7-50W at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
(lots of discussion there. Also here: New Kanger Box Mod- The Subox | E-Cigarette Forum )

Still a box, but on the curvy, smallish side, so pretty pocket-friendly. Nice thing is that it's pretty simple to operate and should take you a long while to outgrow - something you can grow into. With the included Subtank Mini, you can used premade coils (like the Evods) in 0.5Ω, 1.2Ω or 1.5Ω, or when you're ready to, you can build your own in the included RBA head. This just came out and it's probably too soon to tell how reliable it is, but I've always found Kanger stuff reliable. Their entry-level Kbox that's been out for awhile seems to be holding up well without issues - at least not as many as the other ones. iSticks are very popular, but I keep hearing about all kinds of problems with those. Then there are others that to me just get bigger and boxier. Also, I personally prefer removable batteries, just for the sake of longevity (what if the built-in battery dies), and the convenience of simply carrying extra batteries instead of having to worry about recharging while I'm out. If my little brother were to ask me which starter kit to get, this is the one I would recommend. :2c: Check out the links above for more info.

I am a beginning vapor and I decided to go with the 30 watt Istick. I personally love it and it gives you a lot of variability. And it's a very good size and also rechargeable! To give you an idea of the size, I have the eleaf limo tank to match it. The whole unite fits in my Oakley case for my glasses PLUS 4 juices, cotton, and my small screw driver! Also my charger :) happy vaping!

I'd go for the 30W iStick. The Kanger Subbox is a nice unit but the fixed 510 pin connection is starting to show up as an issue. It works well with the Subtank but other tanks and clearomizers are not working great with it. The iStick 30W has a spring loaded 510 pin and works with everything.

+1 for the Sub Box Mini Kit & STs.
Great advice for someone at the Point in their Vape Evolution such as you are.
Heard about the "fixed Pin" issue (actually they are "floating" Pins). Supposedly the new ones are now Spring-Loaded. I have a Kit incoming and will confirm.
Worst case Scenario,,,, you only use Kanger STs with it. Not a Problem. They are quite adept and satisfying especially for a Person at the Crossroads you are. Heck, I ADV on Mechs and RDAs and the Kbox with ST Mini do a great job for me when my ADV Rigs aren't optimal for the situation and don't leave me let down and lacking. So much so I ordered the Sub Kit.
Pretty sure that would Float your Boat quite well as well as be a Device that would be a great Starter Platform for the next Step of RDAs whenever you are ready. Suffices both Now & Later in one Device.

I really thought the Subbox kit was perfect to recommend until we started seeing issues with the "fixed or floating pin" and inexperienced vapers having issues with them. While people are saying "I heard it's fixed", I have yet to see any official website reporting a change in manufacturing to a spring loaded 510 pin. I plan to get one when I know for a FACT the issue is fixed.

I have 4 of the Subtank Mini's and love them. I use the 1.2 ohm coil and it really isn't any different than changing a coil on any tank. The airflow/ mouth to lung or straight lung hits can change. I suggest the Nautilus Mini (I still use 4 of them) because it's a high quality vape for someone who has been using the starter quality Evod tanks. I suggest the iStick 30 because of a proven track record and it's ability to grow into Subtanks down the road without having to get another mod. Walk before you run.

Good advice again, I mean, he or she could get the Istick 30w and use a Nautilus mini, with the option to upgrade to a subtank Mini without needing to buy another mod.

4 Subtank Minis, ah you beat me then on that one, I've been using the Starre tank recently with the Segelei 100w and I thought it would of been to much for me but I absolutely love it, I have pre-ordered the pro version now and should receive my SnowWolf box mod today, you'll probably see a thread go up in the discussion forum about it, I only bought it as I'm yet to try out the temp controlled coils and I've heard members say it stops dry hits. Really nice to chat with you today, going back on topic, I still use my Nautilus Mini when I'm out, bought the caged tank for it, it's also the tank I always recommend to ex smokers who prefer mouth to lung, I have stopped 13 people from smoking in my neighbourhood with that tank, a few have been bitten by the bug and our now enjoying flavour chasing and blowing clouds with sub ohms, talking of flavour, Im vaping "The Milkman" max vg and ohhh yes, it soooo good :thumb:

You're way past me in the TC/power path. I hit the Subtank Mini and have been really satisfied just using the 1.2 ohm coils. I'm still a mouth to lung hitter. My neighbor intro'd me to vape, I was his #36. I got bitten by the DIY bug just before I went from the Nautilus to the Subtank...it seems it's my "shineyitis". See ya around the forum :)

You may want to try iStick 30w. very versatile! I use it with a isub tank from innokin and it works like a charm. This tank comes with 0.5 ohm coils that are really easy to use (I have not gotten the itch to start down the DIY path). The tank is inexpensive and the coils are also inexpensive. I have also seen that there is a newer isub g tank from innokin (g for glass) for all of you out there that do not like poly tanks. I have not bought one yet, but will in the foreseeable future...

There's a bunch of istick 30 that I find aesthetically pleasing one is white w blue swirls another is blue I don't know but I find box mods more pleasing than long mods... Personally speaking, I don't want to drift to what some guys had said (non vapers) about my long sVD type mod (forget the name now believe this) made by SMOK
Anyways,I love the 30 wattage and yes you can and probably will eventually try sub ohm tanks... Even if not now but eventually their prices will drop as everything does.
Best of luck
Oh look at jwraps.com
Many wraps for any mod if u want a specific appearance (March w a drip tip the look is all yours) and charms lol

Wow, tons of great devices and advice. I'll see what they have in the iStick, hold it in my hand and see if I like the weight and feel of it. Of course, the vape has to be great as well.
I would've never thought that was the next step, and I really appreciate the consensus on the iStick. I'll be heading up to the vape shop tomorrow then, since i live less than a block away!

Thanks again everyone!
