Welcome to the forums. There's a few things about the Atlantis. It works best when fed a constant power of 30-40watts. While that is attainable from a mech mod, it's not the best thing to use with it. In a mech mod the power (wattage) drops as the battery drains. The only way around this is with regulated mods. Regulated mods have a step up circuit in them that delivers constant power until the battery is completely dead. Making a regulated mod better to use with the Atlantis then a mech.

Secondly, what battery are you using, and do you know about battery safety? It's very important for you to understand the ins and outs of your mech along with the limitations of your batteries. If I were you if search the forums for some blogs by our resident battery/safety guru, his name is Baditude. Very important information in there if you are not familiar.

And, last of all, about the gurgling and spray you are getting, is most likely due to how you have your airflow set up. If your draw on the air holes is to tight, you can be pulling too much liquid into the coil before it can vaporize. I would try adjusting the airflow. Another thing is you have to keep the battery charged on that mech in order to get the best performance. You might be using a really drained cell, and that can be dangerous.

The Atlantis is designed to be used with a device that can produce at least 20 watts. You aren't going to get it to perform well with the battery device you have and your current experience level. My best advice is either put the Atlantis in the back of a drawer and get something suitable for your mod or put your mod in a drawer and get one suitable for the Atlantis.

Quite honestly, if I was giving advice to myself, I would say to put both in a drawer for now and get a set-up without much of a learning curve, so I could vape while I read more on the forum about how to best use the equipment in the drawer.

If you are going to use a mech mod, you need to know everything about the batteries you use. With a mechanical there is nothing but a tube, a switch, a battery and you. There is no protection built in that will shut the device off if there is a problem, the responsibility is entirely yours.

This is a good place to start reading: Baditude's Blogs - Deeper Understanding of Mod Batteries

This is what I don't want to see happen.

I'm not as knowledgeable as some on here, but you can get dna clones which perform well for a fraction of the price, or look up the mvp2, that ran my nautilus well enough. I assume it would run the Atlantic, but other guys and girls feel free to correct me on this.

Aspire needs to be more clear in the product descriptions. The Nautilus and the Atlantis are designed to be used with different equipment. An MVP2 doesn't produce enough power to get a good performance from an Atlantis.

I'm with Ocelot. The Atlantis is a great tank for what it's intended for...a sub-ohm, lung hitter that produces huge clouds. You'd probably be better off with a Kanger Genitank or Aspire Nautilus which allow for smoker-like mouth-to-lung hits. With these tanks, you take your draw just as you would with an analog (cigarette), you'll feel the satisfying throat hit that us ex-smokers enjoy so much, and you'll get plenty of flavor and vapor as well. I think Aspire did a serious disservice to the vaping community putting this out without a very detailed description of what it is. I've seen so many folks ask if this was an "upgrade" to the Aspire Nautilus when it's, in fact, a completely different product for a different type of vaping crowd. I’d like to know how many of these have been purchased and either returned or relegated to the junk drawer because folks thought it was something it simply isn’t.

I was just about to post that I have come to dislike Aspire more and more for not being clear about the Atlantis. I'm not too crazy about Kanger right now either. Both have temperature regulated heads hitting the market with no indication, from what I've seen, that they aren't just a simple upgrade.

The Atlantis can't be used on any device that can't fire .4ohms and up. This means most ego style, spinners, and MVP's (including the new 20watt). Anything that has 30watts+ is fine, but if you get a unit there are plenty out there with 50-100 watts that are cheaper then the DNA's. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the hype with the DNA's is the temp control, and if that's the case you can only benefit from that feature using special Nickel Wire. Again if I'm wrong please correct me. Again, even with a box mod or regulated box mod, you need to know your batteries and what ones you should be using, along with buying authentic ones. You also need to learn about married pairs, polarity swapping, and operating ranges.

I'm not really comfortable with the entire concept of the Atlantis, et al: a simple-to-use sub-ohm device.
Sub-ohm vaping is not, and should not be marketed as, a simple plug-n-play beginner's thing.
Sub-ohm vaping is essentially the practice of pushing the limits of the equipment, and experience is the only real way of knowing what those limits are.

Beginning skiers don't normally start at the top of a black diamond run, and beginning drivers don't start out at the Indy 500.

Your cheapest solution before you blow your hand off with a mech mod, is get Aspire Sub Ohm battery.
Next stop, is the new Sigelei mini 30w box mod.

As far as the throat tickle that you dealing with, it could be too much nicotine in the juice that you not used to yet. Lower the Nic level, or take smaller and short puffs.

And you should be pretty dang uncomfortable if I ever picked up a chainsaw like in your avatar. But it's no big thing, I know how saws work. I've seen them; they cut stuff...

Trish1,
Welcome to ECF we are all happy to help you begin vaping as safe as possible. This website is a wonderful place to learn anything and everything possible about vaping safely from beginner to highly advanced.

Great advice for beginners to proceed with caution with a sub ohm device. However, the .5ohm atlantis should be able to run just fine on a mech mod provided the correct battery with high continuous discharge rating is used. That being said, sub ohm cloud chasing isn't something most of us feel is the way to start vaping as it can be quite dangerous if you're not aware of the proper precautions needed in order to run unprotected on a mechanical device. Just look at the photo of the seriously burnt hand Ocelot posted.

Personally, I agree with ocelot as far as setting the mech and atlantis aside for now and running something safer until you're up to speed on the battery safety learning curve. Aspire is supposed to be releasing 1.0 ohm coils soon for the atlantis, which would be a much better coil for you to start with when you do start using the atlantis The new 1.0 ohm coils would give you a less agressive vape that isn't so warm and wet feeling as you had mentioned in your OP (thread starting original post).

I also wholeheartedly agree that it's irresponsible for brick and mortar vape shops to promote and sell mech mods and sub ohm devices to people just starting out with vaping. Entry level equipment should be more along the lines of a kanger mini on a twist imho.

Happy Holidays :)

Imo your good with that set up. As you drop ohms you pull more power from the battery now its not going to give you the constant vape that a box will give you but that tank will work just fine on a mech mod. I build my coils and .5ohms and run them on mech mods all day long and they are fine, besides the drop off but thats how i can tell its time to change the battery. The popping is most likely the water in the juice and I've learned to use my tongue to kinda block that from my throat but you'll get used to it. Right now I am vaping at .4 on a mech mod and its been working fine. Thing to remember is lock the device so it can't fire in your pocket and you'll be ok. I do suggest saving up for a regulated box but don't be scared to use that mod with a .5 tank its not going to blow up unless the button gets stuck or you get it to hot but you wouldn't be able to hold it without getting burned if that happened.

You have what all of eight posts and joined here just this month steven?

Warning !!!! ....Newbie advice from newbies...
but don't be scared to use that mod with a .5 tank its not going to blow up unless the button gets stuck or you get it to hot but you wouldn't be able to hold it without getting burned if that happened.

Bullcrap..

Mech mods can and do end up unlocking themselves in pockets. Its much safer to remove the rda or battery before dropping a mech setup in a pocket or purse. You can have a very serious burn on your hand well before you even realize your battery is about to vent or explode. They can get hot enough to burn you VERY fast fwiw. And if its in your pocket you'll have one hell of a time getting it out or getting your pants off before you have a bad case of smoked sausage or worse.

Giving such "you'll be fine" "nothing to worry about" advice without any safety precautions included is HIGHLY dangerous Steven Martinez
