In a perfect world, the inventory system would be 100% accurate and would not show an item was out until the last unit (bottle, box of cartos, etc.) was placed on order.
In reality though, V4L is a beehive of activity. Receiving new shipments, working customer issues, and several people stepping around each other while they fill orders. Watching it in person, it looks like barely controlled chaos.
Since they are only human, just like the rest of us, it is unavoidable that someone will reach for a particular item and accidentally grab one from the box right next to the intended one.
When something like that happens, it would
throw the entire inventory system out of whack.
I'm guessing here, but I'll bet when new stuff arrives and is added to the inventory system, the numbers are fudged down just a bit. This would keep you from ordering (and paying for) something only to discover it's out of stock.
I would much rather see that than backorders. Everything in business is a trade-off and I like the way V4L does things.
