Question on the Russian and Kayfun

Ok, i've heard this time and time again and now all of a sudden I'm being told I'm misinformed. So if someone who is in the know could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

I was told when the Russian came out, it was not technically a clone of the kayfun, due to the fact that the designer of the Russian and Svoe Mesto worked collaboratively on the design, and then parted ways. Is this true or am i spewing bull....?

from what I always understood is the did work together but the one left and used the kayfun design, the full size russian is a copy of the kayfun 3.1ES so whether the design came out of the SM factory or not technically someone else making it makes it a copy. but it may be a case of you did help design it so i cant stop you from taking the design as well.

for reference the actual kayfun basic design is now around 26 months old. the 3.1 is like the 4th version so far.

then the russian 91% came out and It was believed these are just the designers own modifications.

seeing how the light/light plus vs the 91% have different parts in some places i doubt they worked together to design it or SM would have released their own branded version instead of countering with the kayfun light plus.


it could be like what happened with the versa atty's two guys one design, they parted ways now they both make one, under two different company names

it's hard to know whats going on but to be honest i think if i had a high end atty after a few months of good sales i would license the design to china clone maker and double dip myself before they did .
