Question on VV/VW charts and max watts for coils

Hello all,

New Vapor, been at it about a week. In that time i've picked up a nautilus mini with the 1.8 BVC coils, Itaste MVP v2 VV/VW, Ipow 2, and a kanger protank 2 along with a Kanger Subvod kit.

Having done some research before pulling the trigger on my mods/tanks and while waiting for them to arrive I started to read into VV/VW, Which led me to charts like these:

https://www.discountvapers.com/product_images/uploaded_images/voltagechart-lg.jpg

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9dkanCt0I1qc8949o2_1280.png

I have yet to run higher than 7.5-8 watts on either the Ipow or my MVP mainly because I have the 1.8 ohm coil in the naut and a 2.2 (reads at 2.3) stock coil in the protank. Though while reading over some things on the Nautilus I've read people running them as high as 18-20 watts (looks like most enjoy 11-15 watts). According to all the research i've done, this is a big no-no and should fry the coil and their throat.

Side question, if 18 Watts is the ceiling for the 1.8 BVC, how high can I crank a Protank 2 coil, or a Protank 3 BDC coil (Just got my protank 3 mini in the mail and have yet to try it out).

Are my charts outdated? Which I assume is the case here.

Does anyone have a more updated chart/source so I could better understand? I get that you should start low and run higher slowly, but i'd like to have a better idea of what the 'ceiling' as far as volts/Watts my coils can handle so I don't fry them or my lungs.

Thanks,
Coma

Those charts were out of a different era for the most part and the nautilus mini coils are good up to about 13 watts max imo. For one hit they may handle 18 watts but they'll quickly dry out and produce the dreaded dry hit. The pro tank IS out of the era that those charts were conceived in however.... hope these little info tidbits helped somewhat. Bests- David

Yes those charts are outdated.
Back then most coils were made with pretty much the same type of wire.

Nowadays, a much wider variety of wires are used for coils and many modern coils come with the wattage range printed on them or on the packaging.

You picked a great tank in the Nautilus. IT is still rated to this day as the best flavor tank for mouth to lung vaping. I have had so many protanks and aerotanks I have given them all away and every once in a while I will find another one stashed somewhere lol. There is no reason whatsoever to run those nautilus coils any higher than around 12-13 watts. Personally I have enjoyed them at 11-12 watts... usually dead on 11. Vaping is a personalized experience. Its all about what we each enjoy and not feel like we should be doing what someone else is.

Welcome to ECF and Vape it up :vapor:

It all depends on the wicking material.

Organic cotton will burn and burnt cotton tastes nasty.

When i used the Nautilus mini i kept it 15 watts and under.

The majority of Protank coils were silica in my day. Of using the Protank and Protank2.

I have heard Kanger had released Protank coils witg cotton wicks.

I would not push those very high at all becaude the coils have an internal diameter. I know because i rebuilt a few.

A lot of people want maximum clouds and wattage to use maximum voltage you MUST have MASSIVE airflow to cool the coils and prevent burning the wick.

Basically find a satisfying vape that will keep you off the stinkies and call it good.

I have an eVic vtc Mini that fires up to 75 watts.

One juice i prefee at 12.5-15 watts
Another i tootle along at 8 watts is where it gives the best flavor profile.

There are a ,ot of variables your charts-- yes, they're outdated-- don't mention. Plus, vaping is a personal experience. Good for you doesn't mean good for someone else. I'd stick with the Nautilus tank, of the ones you have it's the best. Start out at about 8-9 watts and vape it, gradually raising the power until you get the vape you want, or if it starts to burn, back off of it some. Most people are running that Nauti betewwn 10-13 watts. But there isn't a rule book; it's all about what works for you.

Thank you everyone, you've all been a good help. I was wondering why I was enjoying my protank 2 over my Naut mini at 7-7.5 Watts, protank 2 was getting a decent analog like vape cloud and good flavor. Mini was falling flat with either having to take very long drags to get any flavor or decent vapor cloud.

Now that i've cranked up my Naut mini to around 9-9.5 i'm enjoying it so much more! Vapor production is on par if not better than the protank 2 and flavor has come alive. I'll play around with it some more this weekend to find my sweet spot, just glad to know around where to start being careful or giving it a longer rest when I venture higher into the watts.

Any suggestion for a protank 3 mini or just the cotton BDC coils from kanger in general? Do they follow the single coil (currntly running the cottom replacements for my protank 2 at 1.5 omhs) watt/Volt chart or do they tend to run a bit higher like the Nautilus?

I only ask because I also picked up a Evod 2 kit and was wondering if the 650-1000mah evod batteries would work with it or if I should look into a Evod VV. I would use my ipow 2, but I like the more streamline look of the protank 3 mini on a 16mm battery. So I was looking at either 1000mah evod, 1000mah evod twist, or Itaste vv4 (pen style).

Gosh... I know about all this stuff, but have been busy elsewhere.

Mini Nautilus BVC can easily go up to 12 watts, maybe 14w with 50/50 and 16w with 70% PG.

Kanger do new cotton coils for ALL the 'old' Protank range. They're not called BDC though.

SOCC, TOCC, VOCC. You need to know what fits what. Please ask if unsure.

The only run <20% more power than the original Silica version. If the single coil evod/protank coils got risky at 9 watts, you don't want to go much past 11w, as an example.

There are batteries you list you should not be wasting your money on, b.t.w.

I'll revisit later. :)

Sweet Vapes USA sell Kanger SOCC, TOCC, VOCC for prices and/or information.
They are under $4 retail from China, so paying $19.99 (at some stores) is daylight robbery.

@djsvapour

Thanks for the added info, I'll give a bit more detail. I'm currently running the 1.5 ohm MT32 (SOCC) cotton wick, though I do have a few of the 2.2 ohm Silica stock ones that came with it floating around that I toss in if I'm taste testing a juice for the first time.

On the Protank 3 mini I'm running the stock coil (1.5 BDC silica believe) though it isn't infront of me so I can't comfirm, but I believe the evod 2's came with the 1.5ohms as well. I ordered the VOCC replacement type in cotton, but I assume the VOCCsilica are the stock.

I accidently did order some .8 ohm VOCC coils that are not subtank style, don't believe I have a tank that can run these, correct (Protank 2, PRotank 3 mini, Naut mini, Toptank mini, Evod Glass)? Though I have 1.5 VOCC as well.

I run I have a few 30/70 PG/VG blends but I mainly run 50/50 (Higher in the toptank mini).

So far I've gathered the protank does best at 7-7.5 watts with either coil (silica/Cotton).

Naut mini I have currently at 9-9.5, will play around with it a bit more.

The protank 3 I haven't played with too much, but assuming the coils are the same as the EVod2/Evod glass I assume they would all run around the same sweet spot?

The mini protank 3 I've only run off my evod 2 650mAH battery so far. As mentioned before I have a iTaste MVP v2, IPOW 2, and the evod 2 650 mAH batteries along with the 2300(?) mAH battery off my Subvod Tc Mega kit.

To make a big improvement in your PT2 add one of these.
Kanger Protank 2 Airflow Control Valve $4.49 USA | Vaping Cheap Deals
This will stop leakage from the coil from getting into the 510 connector and give you control over your airflow (draw tight/loose).
When I was using PT's I put one on every PT I owned.

ETA: you can get them from FT for $3.09

I picked up one with my latest juice purchase. Been sampling a few different vendors from the DAP free vendors list here on the forum.

I've only really used it wide open and haven't really played with it. I love the fact that I no longer have to worry about it dripping from the bottom of the coil. So all in all I think it was well worth the $1.50 I got it for.

Is there a big improvement between the versions? I believe there are at least 3 i've seen for the PT 2 and 4 so far when looking for the PT 3 mini.

Sorry, I'm no help with the PT3 or 4. The PT 2 was my last kanger product. Tried a Nautilus for a couple of weeks that in my opinion was no improvement over the PT2. But used more power and juice to make up for it.
Bought my first Kayfun 3.1 almost 2 years ago and have not used a factory coiled tank since.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but the BVC Nautilus ought to have been more reliable re; dry hits and slow wicking compared to the PT2.
Airflow and draw is entirely personal of course.
I had a PT2 with an airflow base, it was nice enough but definitely a few watts lower (in capability) than the Nautilus.
Was it new when you tried it? .... I avoided it until it came bundled with BVC not the original BDC, which was suspect at best. :)

My Naut was one of the early ones, before the BVCs showed up. Gave them away, had bought 2, before the 'improved' coils became available. No regrets.
