If the hole in the mod;s contact is the result of arcing or a short and not the design of the mod, (poor design if it is) it's time to go shopping for a new one. The contacts in any mod should be solid and kept clean, as a dirty or damaged contact can add resistance to the circuit.

That is if for example, you are running a 1.0Ω coil and the contact is adding 0.5 ohms -- the contact will be producing 33% of the heat. Poor connectors are the main cause of the posts you might see about, "hot switches", "hot to the touch", "so hot I dropped..."

my original question is mainly do to some mod that will not take some atty flush to the top cap. when i take a look at the positive contact on some of these mods, there are two pins for the positive contact. the actual contact is made of main positive pin, and another pin in the middle for the battery rattle. when if i take the battery rattle pin out and leave the main positive pin in the top cap? that will create enough space to let the atty sit properly, and leave room for the battery in the mod.

however, this will leave a big hole in the main positive contact for the mod on the top cap since the battery rattle pin is no longer there. will that cause any issue with battery?

Haven't run across a contact such as you describe, but if it still makes a solid contact with the battery without the pin, it should work. I wouldn't want to run a very high amperage through it, as the bigger more solid the contacts the better for high power.

It shouldn't hurt the battery if there is a solid contact, more metal to metal is always better....:)

OK, that is exactly how my mod's battery/atty connection works, so we are on the same page now.

Yes, if you take out the bottom/center pin because don't need, then as long as the hollow pin has good contact with the top of the battery, you should be good to go.
