When I was using cartridges, I used to take them out every couple days to rise and then squeeze dry with a paper towel. Seemed to work pretty well. If you notice some of the fibers starting to get stained (and kind of clump together), then its time to change the fill or get a new carto. Also, sometimes on hotter atomizers, if you do not line the cartridge up right with the atomizer, it can melt the sides of the cartridge and cause leaking issues (and burn plastic taste :()

Glad to help :) In the end I got tired of having to fill up cartridges every 10 minutes, so I switched to cartomizers which hold more juice and last longer before refills. Since you have a riva, you could always try the ego-t tank atomizer/cartridge system on it also. I am still waiting on mine in the mail, but I have read some positive things about it (some negatives as well haha).

If it's a Riva 510 or 901 and those are standard 510 carts or round-tip 901 carts, then try the precut blue foam stuffing - cheap from strictlyejuice.com (75 cents for 10 pieces). I think it lasts a lot longer than the white stuff and it's easy to take out and put back, and you can wash it under running water and pat/press dry with a paper towel.
