Hey Veterans!

Tried out my first Clapton coiling experience, tried with about a foot of 24g kanthal with a 30g wrap, after 3 feet of kanthal...... I had enough for one coil......

My process was, straighten out the kanthal, all good there.

I used a method involving a pen, where you thread the kanthal through the pen top and then apply pressure with the bottom cap.

Had two problems.... The wire was not tight enough to really be considered a proper Clapton wire, the second problem I had was the wire fed back on itself in a few instances...... Haven't tried the 'by hand' method yet, but I'm frightened I'll end up wasting metres upon metres of kanthal.

Any tips very much appreciated!

The above picture is Vinnies first Clapton coil, would rather be making lots rather than one single one! Tried an unfired picture but you can't see anything at all, this is the best I could do.

Coil looks good. Congratulations. Check out Rip Trippers Utube video with a drill. It does take a lot of wire to make a Clapton coil. Because of that I bought Kanthal A1 Clapton coil wire from over seas. Got 3 spools of 30 feet of each 28/32 and 26/32 for a total of 90 feet of both. Ten dollars for 30 feet I paid. Pretty much the only wire I use now. Now that they started selling it in a couple sizes my bet is soon it will be sold in all sizes. CHEERS! and happy coil building!
