questions about HV ecigs

so i recently started vaping, as it were, and definitely enjoy it more than i did smoking analogs. the ecig that i use is the 510, and am reasonably happy with it so far. the only thing is, it's hard for me to get consistent vapor out of it, and this is rather important to me. one of the things i like about smoking is the smoke output, and in this case the vapor output. from what i have read, the 510 is supposed to be great at producing vapor, so maybe it's the juice i'm using? been using JC original/Tennessee (changing them) and not getting much results...matter of fact i don't think there's much to it. the malb pre filleds i got with the kit were much better, both with flavor and vape and TH. i have on order the freedom juice from halo, and a couple others, so maybe they'll be better with the vapor?

anyway, the point of the post is that i've seen video reviews from grimmgreen and tgwtf about the protege and the prodigy v2, and was wonder what the major difference was between the two. i notice that the v2 is actually cheaper, but that the major difference from what i can see is that the v2 is at a higher volt that the protege.

does the higher volt really make more difference? and is the 3.7 protege like the standard 510, or more powerful, etc? between the two, which should i get (remember, vape output is important to me, with flavor falling second)? can you use carts with either one? and is this something i should even be thinking about, or should i use the 510 for awhile first?

and what about attys? do they burn out quickly on the v2, or on the protege? i've seen HV atty's out there, should one get those to use with either the v2 or protege?

i know that i've asked a lot of questions here, but i'm new at this and don't really have anyone around that uses ecigs (i'm the first in my circle of smoker friends/acquaintances - trying to convert the rest), so making this long post is something of a desperate move.

That's correct. If you can't get vapor from a 510 then something else is wrong.

You're not the first one that has reported this.

I'm not familiar with that particular vendor so can't comment. It is well known that a VG (vegetable glycerin) base produces more vapor than PG (propylene glycol). Ecopure or other VG based eliquids might be for you. And sometimes you only need to add a few drops to a top off or mix it at a 80:20 ratio with PG in order to boost vapor production. My main vapes are all VG based with flavor and nicotine added so almost 100% VG.

The 510 atomizer is best suited imo, to the Protege. Here's scubabatdan's chart on the main atomizers with regards to their resistance and to the battery's voltage:

The Protege, (I have one) is NOT like the standard 510. While the average voltage 3.7v is the same, the ability to reach and maintain peak voltage 4.19v is not the same. The regular batteries never reach that peak and the Protege holds that peak for hours, ymmv. And while it doesn't seem like much of a difference in voltage the resultant wattage (see the above chart) is significant enough to give big vapor as well as the longevity of the 14500 battery in the Protege.

Again, back to Dan's chart you can see that the 510 is suited for the 3.7/4.2v peak battery and in my experience that has been the case. I've burned out two 510 attys by not paying attention on a 5volt mod. Yet the 901 and cartomizers work well without having to pay so much attention on the 5volt, but I get just as much vapor on the 510 on the Protege (and Bartleby) as I do with the 901 on a 5 volt and get better flavor on the 510 with the flavors I use - tobacco, coffee mainly. Black currant and other fruit/berry flavors taste better on the 801 and 901 but on a 3.7 volt mod - Janty Stick.

I've never burned out an atty of the 3.7v that wasn't pilot error. I lost one on a 'dry burn' gone wrong.

They aren't needed on a Protege/510 set up. And if you go V2, then just use a regular 901. IF you go 6volt then HVattys become a consideration.
