Hi everyone. I just started trying to mix my own ejuice, and it is not going well. I have everything I need: PG, VG, 100mg/ml Nicotine juice (PG), flavors from Flavor Apprentice, etc. I am following recipes I found on the internet to the T... but the taste is crap, and so is the vapor production too. Where am I going wrong?

I bought the 100mg/ml nicotine juice from Box Elder, and it sat in a cabinet for 2-3 months before I got around to using it. It has an orange-ish tint to the liquid, and it definitely has a taste that (I don't think?) it should, but then this is my first time ever seeing the stuff I guess. It is probably 3 months old now -- did I wait too long, and is that why my DIY juice is tasting like crap? Should 100mg/ml Nic juice have a color to it, or should it be clear? Vapor production is crap from my DIY juice too... I don't know why :|

Also, I tried making some juice with no nicotine, and the taste is better... but the vapor production is still crap. I am using strictly PG and FA flavorings. Someone told me I need to use VG, but the shop I've been getting my ejuice from for a while now doesn't use it and the juice I get from them give me much more vapor. What gives???

PG carries flavor better but less vapor. VG is thicker, needs more flavor, but produces more vapor.
Nic base can sometimes have a color, though that doesn't necessarily mean its bad. It just means the nic has oxidized a bit.
If your nic has a taste, it will carry through to the finished juice. Taste is everything, so if you think its a bad taste, well... that does mean you need to get more nic.
If you're mixing 100%PG juice, yes you will have less vapor. Try at least 30%VG & see if that doesn't give you more.
Also, though more flavor-wise than vapor-wise, most flavors need to steep for a while for them to reach their best. Some a day or 2 others weeks.

I'm pretty sure the nic juice is screwed. But I am unclear on something: is ALL nic juice going to have a taste (i.e. do eJuice vendors have to balance that nic juice taste out with other flavors) or should my nic juice be pretty much flavorless? Or is my problem simply that my nic juice has a BAD flavor (as opposed to GOOD, obviously)?

Do PG and VG mix well, or do they like to separate? I thought they would separate but I don't know squat. So when it comes to the PG/VG with 0% nicotine part of my recipe, instead of adding x amount of 100% PG, I will try adding x amount of 70/30 PG/VG mix.

If you want more vapor you have to use the PG--even a modest 20% VG will add some volume to the vapor. Its hard to help without seeing the exact measurements you used and favors etc. Did you use one of the calculators? Did you let it steep? Nicotine left out will oxidize but should notsignificantly if never opened and stored in a cool dry place.
