Hey Guys,

So I have a few questions regarding mixing 100MG/ML (PG base) nicotine.

1. If I have a 120ml Short Fill (100ml of liquid in a 120ml bottle) And I want to add VG/PG to “Top it off” how much nicotine would I be adding to make 3MG? And how much VG / PG if I want to keep the ratio at 70VG / 30PG. Off the top of my head I’m guessing somewhere around 11ml VG / 5 ml PG and 4 ml of 100MG/ML nicotine?

2. If I wanted to make my own DIY “nic shots” which would be 3MG / 70 VG / 30 PG and have a total quantity of 20ML what would be the measurements? So basically I could just add this pre-made “DIY Nic shot” to a 120ML short fill (Which has 100ml liquid in the bottle). Again I would be using 100MG/ML Nicotine.

3. Is it best to use syringes and measure in ml? Or am I better off using my digital scale? If scale is better, does anyone have a reliable ml - Gram converter? Or chart?

4. What is the best way to store my Nic? I currently have 4 X 30ml glass bottles of 100MG/ML PG base Nic. I’m guessing keep the one I’m using in the fridge or a cool dark place? And chuck the other 3 into the freezer? My buddy claims there is no need to freeze it, and to just keep it in a cold / dark / shaded place like my juice and it will last for a year. But he’s not an expert so I decided to ask here.

Thanks in advance!

You might want to check out the ELR website (e-liquid Recipes). They have calculators in both volume and weight. I mix with a $9 pocket scale. Probably wouldn't worry about freezing 120mls, I would keep it in the fridge. Use the freezer if you have more nic than you'd use in 6 months to a year.

Hey thanks for the reply,

But I think you misunderstood me?

First I said I have 4X 30ml bottles of 100MG/ML nic.

The calculation you sent is for 100ml of eliquid. I have a Short Fill which is 100 and I want to make 120ml.

So my question is:

I have 100ml 70/30 pre-made juice.

I want to add 20ml of VG/PG and nicotine to be left with an even 120ML @ 3MG 70/30 mix.

How much PG, how much VG and how much 100MG/ML nic would I add to make that mix.

thanks.

We love helping out here!
But that doesn't mean we're going to miss a learning opportunity, or do the math for you.
Get a calculator for your eliquid, make a decision on how you want to measure your mixes.

Some will say weight, some will say volume. Figure out which is going to work for you.

Calculators may be a bit tricky in getting to these specific answers tho - so I'll give it a shot:

1) You'll end up with 120mls, and you want it to be 3mg strength, right? So the bottle needs to have 3x120 = 360mg of nic in it. To get that from 100mg/ml nic, you'll be adding 3.6mls of nic.
You didn't specify whether your nic is in PG or in VG. To keep the ratio exact, I'd need to know that.
Let's presume it's in PG. Since you're adding 20 mls total, and you want to not change the ratio, that 20mls needs the same ratio.
70% PG means 20x.7 = 14mls of PG. But you already added 3.6 with the nic in it - so, 14-3.6 more = 10.4 more PG
Then 30% of your 20mls is VG, 20x.3 = 6mls VG

2) That's the same math, exactly, unless I missed something.
a 20 ml shot that's got these ingredients will turn 100 mls of no-nic juice into 120 mls of 3 mg juice, maintaining a 70/30 PG/VG ratio
3.6mls of 100mg/ml nic in PG
10.4 mls PG
6 mls VG

3) I use syringes and/or graduated cylinders (for large batches). But weight is at least as good - potentially more accurate.

4) I keep a 120 ml bottle of nic OUT, and have liters in a freezer. Either plan is fine - personally, I want to freeze it if it's being stored more than a year - and I'm getting ready in case you can't buy nic, or in case they pop a 500% tax on it. I have like 10 years' worth, and probably will get a bit more.

Hey thanks for the info, but wouldn’t that make it more PG than VG? I meant that i wanted the juice mixture to finish at 70% VG and 30% PG.

Wouldn’t the calculations be as follows to achieve that:

3MG/ML in 120 ML = 3x120=360. With 100MG/ML 360/100= 3.6ml Nic
Then for the extra 20ml to make its 70VG / 30PG = 14ml VG and 6ml PG. But since the Nic contains PG already then it would be 2.4ml PG

So finally the mixture would be
Original Bottle 100ml 70VG / 30 PG
100mg/ml Nic - 3.6ml
VG 14ml
PG 2.4ml

100ml + 3.6ml + 14ml + 2.4ml = 120ml 3MG 70VG / 30 PG.

And to make a 20ml “Nic shot” that I could mix into 100 ml short fills (in 120 ml bottles with 100ml liquid) I would just make

3.6ml 100mg/ml nic
2.4 ml PG
14 ml PG

= 20ml of 36mg/ml 70 VG / 30 PG shot. And when that’s added to a 100ml 0 mg 70 VG/ 30 PG liquid it should even out to 120ml 3MG 70 VG / 30 PG?

Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks!

YES! Sorry - got the ratio wrong, but you now "get" the math, so mission accomplished.
:)
