Questions for anyone who can answer...

and I'm not really sure where it belongs.

What is trolling on a forum? And what constitutes stalking on a forum??
I was recently accused of doing both. From my understanding of the meaning of the terms I was doing neither...but if anyone can help me understand maybe I can figure out where I went wrong so it doesn't happen again.

This is the definition from my roomate, an avid World Of Warcraft player, and therefore an expert on computer language: "A troll is someone who is constantly on a forum and just looks for people to pick a fight with."

So 2 posts out of more than 126 i'm involved in that I disagree with the poster....and talk to her about that... That constitutes trolling?? Both posts were in the outside thread section and both had controversial subject matter being tossed about. And does that mean I'm stalking her?

Oh and I guess I should add I didn't start the controversy. I responded to posts and shared my opinion.

Stalking is usually when you keep on PMing a person even when they ask you don't or posting in the same persons threads all the time and picking a fight for the sake of picking a fight. Just disagreeing in a couple of threads as long as it's constructive doesn't constitute either imho.

If you have no history of trying to create inflammatory situations, then no you aren't trolling. Trolls thrive on argument, they'll post something completely asinine to try to provoke one. If you're actually arguing about something and actually have a reason to be then you don't count as a troll...you're just a normal person.

So requesting an apology from someone for an insulting comment not pm but on the forum...and trying to prove what she said is wrong (took multiple posts becuz she said I said things i did not say) is that stalking?

Personally... if you are asking about checking your own behavior.. you can't be stalking.

Internet stalking is the relentless pursuit of the harassment of another. An argument, even in a PM, isn't harassment.

However, the internet is a hive of scum and villainy. I'd even go so far as to not engage people you do not like. There are many ways powerless people try to harass others- but really it depends on how you react to it.

If I'm feeling "baited" in a discussion, I stop talking. It's hard to hassle a person who will not communicate.

Heather...usually Trolling is not stalking IMO...Trolling is someone who enters threads to cause disurbances for the sake of starting trouble...Stalking is following a person around & posting everywhere they post & directing their comments at that particular person for an extended amount of time...Hope that helped

It did...It does....and I'm still convinced I didn't do it.
BUT you guys have helped me calm WAY down and realize that I'll just leave the problem "child" alone. (not that i'm saying the person is a child. just to be politically correct)
