I am new to vaping and e-cigarettes and I've been a pack-a-day (sometimes more, sometimes less) smoker for about 15 years. I purchased the Firelight starter kit from Ecigarettesnational.com as my entry level
device. I purchased it because it came with two devices, several chargers, and 10 cartridges whereas many other kits came with only 5. Lastly, the price was only $50 and the customer service was outstanding. It arrived at my doorstep within 36 hours. I like the product, however I wish I would have chosen their strong menthol cartridges as opposed to the medium strength. The medium strength, to me, is similar to smoking an ultra-light and I have been a regular or light menthol smoker for the past 10 or so years. All in all though I liked it enough and was impressed enough to spend more money on a more substantial, long-term unit. The Firelight was my test and I'll probably give it to a friend or relative who is interested in trying e-cigarettes and coming off of tobacco.
After reading reviews in the forums and watching many video reviews I decided to go with the BB device from Altsmoke. It seems to put off a lot of vapor and isn't bulky or clunky. And since it isn't cigarette-shaped I think it will help me to lose the hand-to-mouth association one acquires when smoking tobacco cigarettes.
My next area of research was E-liquids. There are literally dozens and dozens if not hundreds of vendors out there. That goes for the e-cigarettes too. It appears that many are simply ordering generic product in bulk from Asia, slapping their business name on the product and selling it on-line. Not that this is necessarily a bad practice (why not take advantage of a new booming industry), but the pricing and marketing can be overwhelming to the unsuspecting or unknowing consumer.
I ended up ordering the Freedom and the Menthol Ice e-liquids from Halocigs.com and will be trying them with the BB. I don't know which samplers they will send me but I'm curious to try the Harley 56. My friend is buying the Harley 56 because he is strictly a tobacco flavored smoker/vaper. I was a menthol smoker so I went with the Menthol Ice based on reviews and picked up the Freedom since many seem so impressed with it.
The main things I am looking for in e-liquid are:
Throat hit
Nicotine fix
Lots of vapor
Authentic taste
Consistent product (not stronger or weaker or different tasting from order to order)
The menthol cartridges I got with my Firelight aren't quite what I would describe as menthol. More minty and sweet. They leave a sweet residue on my lips and tongue which reminds me more of smoking one of those slim menthol cigars with the plastic mouth piece.
I am curious to know more about TotallyWicked-E-liquid and the juices they offer. Since I am looking for a true menthol-tobacco taste am I better off to buy a tobacco juice and add menthol flavoring? Do you recommend TotallyWicked? I am also considering buying some of their non-flavored liquid and pairing it with some of their flavors. I'm not opposed to some of the fruit flavors but I don't want anything too sweet. Their Black Cherry sounded appealing to me as well as their Absynthe and Mentholyptus. But I am not at all interested in flavors like pizza, roasted chicken, cola, etc.
I ordered my Halo juice in 18mg because I noticed that at higher concentrations (ie. 24mg) that it seemed to be too strong for some when using a device like the BB. I suppose I could always buy a stronger concentration and dilute it down to save money. What are the success rates of doing this? Is buying propylene glycol and aqueous glycerin and the whole DIY method the better way to go?
I know this is all a very customized, personalized process to get exactly what works for you but I am looking for suggestions on the criteria I listed above but from experienced vapers.
One final question: I've read that some folks have added drops of vodka or grain alcohol to their vaporizers, either on the atomizers, or to their cartridges in order to get the nice throat hit. Does this work? As a menthol smoker that is part of the joy of smoking. That nice cool kick in the back of the throat upon inhaling. Any thoughts or advice or comments are very much appreciated.
