Hey ECF

Just had a couple quick questions about battery safety. I got my Derringer coming in the mail as we speak, and I've never been more excited to slap it on my copper 4nine and rock some stealthy clouds. I have a couple Purple eFest 18350's laying around (700mAh, 10.5A), and I was just curious on what sort of build they would allow for. I know that if I have a coil that's 0.4ohms, at 4.2V, it will be pushing 10.5A, but I guess what I'm looking for is first hand experience.

Who else rocks a hybrid type mod in 18350 with a Derringer on top? Are there more trustworthy batteries than the purple eFests that I can scoop up somewhere? Finally what kind of battery life are we talking here? I have 2 18350's and a battery case to carry them in, so switching out batteries mid day doesn't bother me.

Peep this here homie.

You'll be pulling about 30W through your 18350 battery at a .5 ohm build (.4 ohms would reach your 10.5A limit at 4.2V.. always leave some headroom). According to Steam-Engine, that doesn't leave you with a lot of vape time. It estimates about 70 puffs @ 5 second puffs (so it'd probably be closer to 140-200, but still).

You'd need to carry around 4+ 18350's if you wanted to make this your ADV. I'd suggest building higher ohms if you're gonna slap it on an 18350, like 1.2 or above with some thin wire should work pretty good, and it'll also demand a lot less out of your battery.

If you wanna build a .4, use an 18650 and don't take the risk.

Care to elaborate?

Or provide a safe, less "questionable" alternative?

Efest doesn't make their own batteries as far as I have been able to determine, they re-wrap other manufacturer's cells. Nothing wrong with that, however they often overstate the specs of their re-wrapped cells compared to the original cell's specs.

Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised

AW just updated their popular 18350 IMR batteries to 12 amps continuous and 800 mAh. I'll say these will safely outperform any other IMR battery in this class. AW 18350 IMR

Despite the 12 amps continuous of this battery, I still would be very hesitant to use this battery for a sub-ohm applications simply because of its size and expected battery time. (I would expect less than 3 - 4 hours battery time sub-ohming one of these.) If you are going to sub-ohm, use an 18650 or 26650 IMR battery.

Thanks a lot Baditude,

I guess more than battery info I was looking for first hand experience with running this atty/mod combo. Although I have been living the regulated life for a while, so it's nice to get a refresh on mech mods and safety.

Maybe this post would get more exposure if it was posted elsewhere. I'm still quite new to ECF. Would someone be able to move it for me?

It appears that you need to do some research, so that you can understand Ohm's law and battery safety. These should be the prerequisites required before a person is allowed to purchase/use ecigs.

His first post pretty clearly shows that he understands Ohm's law/battery safety.

Then why is he asking a question about an Efest 18350?

The thread title is a bit misleading, but he is asking:

Pretty sure he was looking for people to chime in with regards to using 18350's and RDA's/what kind of battery life they get out of it.

From personal experience, I don't think it's worth it (just use an 18650, longer battery life, higher amp limit), but to each his own. At no point did OP talk about going past the amp limit of his batteries. Most people don't even know the amp limit of their batteries, let alone bother to calculate what amperage a fully charged battery + whatever ohm they're looking to use will put out.

I was just wondering why a person would even choose a Efest battery (questionable specs), when there are more reputable batteries like Sony and MNKE?

I'm waiting on a Stingray X and a Derringer for a similar stealth build, which I was going to run with a 0.5 ohm single coil.
Your Derringer/4Nine is going to be pretty damn small even in 18650 mode (4 inches without drip tip). With the benefits of run time and extra headroom for your battery, or a lower resistance build if you want to.

Just how stealthy are you planning on being? Will you be attempting to pass of the clouds you will be blowing as inexplicable meteorological events, and handing out tinfoil hats?

I use a pair of Efest 18650's. As long as you acknowledge that they're rewraps and don't try to push them to their falsely advertised 35A limit (I come nowhere near that -- and neither should anyone, really) they're perfectly suitable batteries. I believe they're HE2's in most cases, which are totally great 20A cont. discharge batteries.

When I bought them I didn't know they were re-wraps, but I never intended to push them to their limits anyway so uh. Doesn't really make a difference.

Thank you very much for your concern, but I can assure you that the minute I switched from an Ego to a vision spinner, I made sure that I familiarized myself with Ohm's law and the like.

I guess I could have been a little bit more clear when I said I had some Efest's "laying" around. I had them from when I got my first mech mod (Magneto) and wanted to run it in 18350 mode. I was aware that since a great deal of time has passed since then, there should be something better on the market. And if you look back to my original post, some of your queries might be answered:

I guess what I'm looking for is first hand experience.

I'm loving the tiny vape. I had it set up with my Kayfun w/Bell Cap and it was blowing my mind. I'm not all to concerned about the "stealth" part of stealth vaping (being blowing minimal clouds to remain incognito), I guess I'm more interested in the whole, "Wow you can get that quality of a vape out of something the same size as a 15ml bottle of juice!?"
