So I picked up vaping about a month ago. I ordered the evod starter kit. I decided to build me a little more sophisticated pipe so I went with a mini pro tank on a smok winder vv battery. I've tried to use it for a week and I'm getting either a burnt flavor, or a muted flavor. I've tried several different coils ohms and juice blends. I've went back to the old evod I got originally because I was getting bigger clouds and better flavor. So far I've tried removing wicks, cutting the rubber cups on the evod heads, and Im getting either low flavor and decent clouds or good flavor and liquid when I take the first hit. If I crank up the voltage it burns off the liquid fairly quickly but I'm not far from getting the burnt taste if I take another drag. Anybody else experienced this? I also put a mini protank on my wife's evod and get the muted flavor there also.

I not sure but i used to love the protank mini too. I like to rotate clearos so i dont get stuck with one just for the heck of it.
Im using the vi vi nova at the moment and loving it. Last week i switched the mini with a new atomizer, filled her up and couldnt put it back down because i was getting such quality vape that i killed the juice in that tank.
I notice i like smoking my zmax3 more so then my ego twist. It could be your Pv?? just order new atomizer on the mini and see how it goes.

When I started this whole building process I just wanted something to give me more vapor, since I find myself taking a short drag then a long one to get the evod primed up. Also something that looked and felt nicer and easier to clean. Now all I have is a headache and several juice flavors I pushed aside because they tasted bad on the mini protank but now I'm liking them in the evod. That tells me it's not the juice, just something going on with the tank. Anybody else use the winder battery or can I narrow it down even more to the tank, since it pretty much gives the same results on the evod fixed voltage battery. :glare:

The metal tip &/or airflow differences. I prefer my EVOD tanks and the tip is what I think the difference is for me. I have the V2 mini Protank 2 but haven't tried swapping out the tip yet. It's a pain to fill compared to the EVODs. I only use my glass tanks for the tank crackers so it's not a big deal but it's annoying.

You might be interested in the new Pyrex Aro V2. It's like a glass version EVOD. I'm laid off right now or it would be in my hands now! MadVapes, I think is the vendor.

HI, There are some way better helps on the forum than I could ever be, but . . . I strongly suggest you cleaning the new coils before using them. Take them apart, clean in hot water to get the manufacturing debris off the coils and wicks. This means . . . take the top 'flavor' wicks off and rinse or even use boiling water. When reassembling be sure the wicks are fluffed up enough to cover all the inlet area. I've noticed a metalic and other tastes when trying to vape a coil out of the package. I hope this helps. I luv my Kanger Mini Pro II, and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I am not fond of is the ice cold stainless steel tip, thus I hold it for a minute before vaping.
Blessings and Joy on your journey,
Bliss

Speaking of the evod and mini protank.... I just posted a video on YouTube where I compare the two. If you feel like checking it out you can find it here: Kanger EVOD vs. Kanger Mini Protank-II (v2) - YouTube

Congrats on your switch to vaping! I've had a similar problem with both of the tanks but I found that if I just let the liquid absorb for 15-20 minutes, do a few dry puffs to help it absorb more, and turning the voltage down to the 3.5-4.0v then it helps not burn it too much to where I get the burnt taste.

I did try an experiment on one of my extra coils for the evod where I removed the wicks and replaced them with some cotton. I haven't vaped on it yet but I'll update you later on when I do.

Me too. I tried to sell it brand new in box with 9 new coils, no takers --- now so glad i didn't. When people move on to the newer stuff it's often just a pocketbook drainer. I'm glad i kept this set now.

Sigelei Zmax is a wonderful PV. I"ve owned both provari and zmaxV3, I like the ego threading and ability to use 3 different battery sizes on the zmax for 1/4 of the price.

Thanks for all the great info. I also wondered if I wasn't letting it wick long enough before I started vaping it. I will try again this afternoon. It's been sitting at home all day because I brought the evod to work with me. It is much easier and lighter to carry anyway. I'm going to look into the acrylic drip tips also. I knew someone could help without me having to start all over with another type tank.

Sounds like the OP's problem is the coil unit. PT's can be great, on par (some say better) than the EVOD.

Their coil units are interchangeable, so I would suggest swapping a "good" coil from the EVOD with the coil from the PT. If that cures your ills, you had a bad coil in the PT. It happens. It could, in fact, be a bad batch if you got a pack.

Many complain of burnt or rubbery tastes from PT coils. I've always found that letting the juice saturate for 10 mins or so avoids this, but I would also watch the voltage - start low and step adjust until you hit the threshold you like.

Here's how it went. The pt came with 1.8 ohm coils. I thew one in, filled it up set it on 3.6v and instant burned taste. I had some 2.2 coils from my evods I put in and the burned taste left but the flavor was muted compared to the evod. I got a pack of new 1.8's in the other day I will throw in and let it soak before I vape it. Maybe I was giving up on it too easy. I did put about 3 different coils in it but they were ones I had used and washed out of my evod when I changed flavors.

My 2 cents: I'm not using the mini PT presently, but when I did, I found it helpful to wash the tank (hot water, sit over night in rubbing alcohol, etc. rinse again) and I removed the flavor wick. I generally vape 50/50 or 70/30 (pg/vg). I noticed that the higher the vg, the more problems I had with wicking (but less plumes of "smoke." Hope this helps.
