i would post this in the battery forum......but no one ever responds to my question threads.....so i unknowingly ordered nameless IMR18650s - they are 3.7v and 1500mah, and stupid flat tops... i was wondering wether to charge on 300 ma or 650 ma - i cant find what the peak charge current is.. but i dont want to blow my nameless batteries up so the charger will remain at 300 ma till i get confirmation.

IMR means li-mn, which is protected by chemistry not circuits. This means that if the battery fails, it does so without exploding. It might get hot, vent some gas, but no boom. AW is a company that makes really good batteries, but other companies make IMR batteries too. I know that AW IMR batteries have a really good rating, I do not know about other IMR batteries.

With all batteries, as soon as they are fully charged, they should be removed from the charger. Without some kind of protection circuitry, either in the battery or in the charger, some trickle charging of the battery may occur. Over a long time period, this may be detrimental to battery life or possibly even unsafe. If you have a meter to measure them, they should not be charged above 4.2 volts; slightly less is even better.

I always let my batteries sit for several hours before putting them into use. That should allow any chemical reactions inside to stabilize before drawing current from them.

I charge mine (same 1500maH IMR's) on a 1000mA fast charger no problems.

Also flat top issue sorted in 10 seconds with some solder.
