Maybe I don't understand your question.

You need to use IMR or hybrid chemistry batteries with a sufficient continuous discharge rate (CDR) to safely support the power range (regulated power device) or safely support the resistance range (mechanical) you intend to use.
Some regulated power device manufacturers recommend using a specific CDR / amp rate battery in the owners manual/instructions or in their advertising/specifications.

A single battery 60W regulated power device will have a higher CDR requirement than a 20w.

A mechanical using a .3Ω coil will have a higher CDR requirement than one using a .8Ω resistance.

No one battery is specific for any one device. Now depending on the build you have, the lower the build, the more important it becomes for you to have high drain batteries. Married batteries will discharge at the same rate so that one battery isn't over worked. Ohm's Law is something you may want to read about. We have a great instruction here called Ohm's Law for Dummies. It will help explain things better.

I don't think it matters if your device only needs 1 battery. I have a snow wolf mini and wotofo tiny freakshow both single battery and I interchange them

If it needed more than 1 its best to have them married
I think the question is, "do I need to keep this pair of batteries (which are married to each other) also married to the device I'm going to use them in, or can I switch them between different two-battery devices?" And I think the answer is as long as the batteries stay married to each other, you can use them in different dual-battery devices without any problems. The key point is that the batteries should wear evenly, charge evenly, and age evenly. This doesn't mean every charge-discharge cycle has to be the same as the last time, it just means it's the same, each time, as the other battery.

I have several married pairs for parallel mods, and several married pairs for series mods. Do I need to seperate them for different wiring configurations? I doubt it, but I do.

These seies mods share married pais though: Sig 100, Sig 150tc,.Renegade X, ipv5, Hexohm

These parallel mods share married pairs: istick100, istick 100tc, Vaporflask, Tugboat box.
