Im having my first go at making stainless steel mesh wicks for a Taifun GS atti (the slim one). I had no problem rolling the mesh into a nice even "straw" that fits perfectly in the holes of the taifun, but i see a little "hole" inside the SS rolls. I can see light thru them, kind of like a straw,
is this normal or do i need to tighten it up more?
Is the mesh wick supposed to have an opening running thru its center?

thanks!

Good question. I've seen vids where people leave it hollow down the middle and many where people roll it as tight as possible (as solid as possible) with no hole in the middle.

My latest build I follow a RipTripper build that was a tiny mesh wick, like the half the diameter, a little cotton wrapped around the top third and fed down through a vertical microcoil. Wasn't impressed enough to even refill the tank after initial fill. Going back to classic build next time.

Got any pics?

I have a new Taifun GS sitting at the desk, tried just straight cotton, silica and ekowool wicking and couldn't get it quite right. I may just sale it, as I have kayfun and dripper builds almost perfect for my liking. Just wanted something with a small profile that looked and performed good that was rebuildable. I like tinkering so I don't wanna give up, but my pt2mini with microcoil and cotton is solid and reliable.

shure, ill take some pics tomorrow and put them here. (cant right now cause i would wake up the girl)

And definetely dont give up on it! its a sweet vape once you get it right.

I dint find it too hard tbh, just ss mesh as "straws" from the tank, 2 strands of 3mm silica and .32 kanthal

I'm still trying to figure out how to wick this RSST so that I get a satisfying vape from it. Going to throw a standard mesh wick in it today adn see how that works, the thin wick wrapped with cotton was a bust IMO.

Maybe I'll try wrapping it around a strand of silica as mentioned, never heard of that method.

The silica / ss mesh hybrid I am using actually came included with a Fogger V2 bottom coil tank similar to the Taifun in a lot of ways.

I never used it in the fogger but one day for fun decided to try it out in a REO / dripper, it's may favorite setup now.

More surface better liquid adhesion; solid core and as small as you can make it.
Its strange, the bigger a wrapped ss mesh diameter is the less flavor and vapor.

You would think a bigger wick and more -- no its directly opposite in my experience.

A ssmesh rebuilt boge that @ 3.4ohms is equivalent in vapor to a very low ohm build.
Its the size of a very thin needle; flavorful, and hot as hades vapor production is wow..

The size of the mesh i used originally for the straws was the manufacturer recommended of 14mm x 27mm for each straw.
It worked fine while i was using it. But i left the tank filled overnight, and it did flooded a little.

So i made new straws using 2 pieces of SS mesh 15mm X 40mm each, rolled them tight so that there would be no hole in the center, put them on, and so far no flooding, and no dry hits or anything. Every time i take a couple of puffs of it, i can see bubbles rising, then they stop. So i guess its working properly.
Will have to do the "leave it filled overnight" test to confirm.

Here are some pics. BTW, after i took it apart to change the straws, i swapped the normal silica + .32 kanthal wick for .29 kanthal microcoil and cotton.
So far is working great.

Fits great in the VTR!

I don't have one of these Benzin. I don't understand how you get juice from the SS 'straws' to the coil.

I don't have one of these Benzin. I don't understand how you get juice from the SS 'straws' to the coil.
The "straws" you make from SS mesh are to transfer the juice from the tank above to the chamber below it, they pass thru a plate with 2 small homes that separate the tank from the chamber.
These straws touch the wicks in the chamber and soak them with juice.

Heres the chamber and the plate with the straws above it. (BTW, i got rid of the cotton. No matter how hard i try, i just dont like the flavor from it)

sube imagenes

the whole thing asambled, the chamber with plate sit below the tank

EDIT: WTH??? for some reason, the images appear inverted! (top is bottom)

Success! the 15mm X 40mm straws of 400 SS mesh passed the final test.
I left the tank full overnight, today i checked it and found no leakage or flooding at all.

So i can confirm, anyone having problems with their taifun gs, try usign 15mm X 40mm pieces of 400 mesh for the feeding wicks (straws).

As for the wick i settled for 4 wraps of .32 kanthal over 2 strands of 3mm silica, ends of the wicks tucked down arround where the straws go.
Great performance and flavor!

Man i love the independence of this thing! you can setup any type of coil you want without messing with the liquid feeding. Because the coil (and wick) is completely independent of the straws that feed the juice to it.
