My buddy gave me this patriot rda but the best battery I have is a evod vv 1600mah. Will this work for me. Also I have some 32 gauge wire and I'm not sure if I should go up or down in gauge.

It will work as long as you don't go too low with your coil resistance. I don't know the ohm limit on the evod but my guess would be around 1.2-1.5 ohms. It probably won't fire at all if the resistance is too low.

Most ego type batteries have an amp limit of 2.5A. Keep your builds at 1.5ohm or higher and you will be okay.
As long as you within the limits of the device it can work, but the performance would probably be pitiful to say the least.

1.5 Ohm low limit advice is sound if you use the on your EVOD. You'll easily build a dual coil setup with 32 AWG wire.
