Hi all,

I'm relatively new to vaping (1 month today) and my carto is acting strangely...it's making almost no noise. I am using a Prodigy v3.1 at 3.7 volts with Boge LR cartos. I've been through about 10, and they all made crackling noises when I hit the button. This one waits a full 1-3 seconds before making the slightest crackle, almost like a car ignition having trouble turning over to start. After that 1-3 seconds, the vapor production is great and the Firecracker juice hits like a freight train, but during those 1-3 seconds there isn't any vapor. Is there anything I can do and should I be alarmed?

You don't need noise, you only need vapor. I'm surprised, however, that you aren't getting vapor before it starts making noise. This carto probably isn't wicking liquid as quickly as the others you were using. I would fill it, leave it sit for a day, and see if anything changes before trying anything as drastic as cleaning.

Sometimes, you just get a funky carto.

Don't be alarmed. I've been using Boge for about 7 months and I've come across some that are a bit finicky like you stated. If they eventually fire, then don't be worried. I had one that would do that that lasted me 6 weeks before I finally tossed it. It was still working when I retired it but the draw was starting to get hard.

I got my first cartos (10 prefilled and 10 blank) from myvaporstore.com and they never made any noise. I got some from Vaporsetc.com and they did some crackling/popping. I like the ones from myvaporstore.com better because they are quiet and have more filler inside and the cap/plug at the mouth-end is a little longer.

Assuming that I decide to take drastic measures and clean it, which method of cleaning cartos has won out? I've seen hundreds of threads and dozens of videos regarding carto cleaning...ranging from soaking in drinking alcohol, rubbing alcohol, boiling water, hot tap water, even one using a children's oral medicine syringe for some kind of carto enema. Which one works best with the least hassle? That's the main reason I use cartos: they require extremely low effort for their performance.

I would suggest using plain water to start. It doesn't dissolve everything as quickly as alcohol might, but it will dissolve most of what you want to clean out and will be least likely to cause damage. Distilled or reverse osmosis water are best as they won't leave mineral deposits behind. There are a lot of folks who don't clean cartos, they just chuck 'em and use a new one.
