Well today is day one without using my e-cig. When I decided to quit analogs I knew the e-cig was just going to be a tool and not a total replacement. I used the e-cig for close to 8 weeks without a single analog. It wasn't easy! I still had serious cravings for an analog, but never gave in.

I noticed that my cravings for analogs lessened and I could go for longer periods without vaping. It was time to take the leap. I have some Commit lozenges to make it easier. So far so good. I plan to gradually step it down until I'm completely nicotine free.

You and me both, welcome to the quitters' club :)

I hadn't intended to ease off so soon - I'm afraid of trying to do this too quickly and ending up back on analogs. I've been using snuff and snus rather than lozenges (with success).

Wouldn't it be easier to step down your nic intake using the PV (ie until you're down to 0mg), and then stop the 'habit'.... if that is your goal.

For what it's worth, I don't believe this method to be suitable for me (others may differ of course), I prefer to partake less and less rather than absorb nicotine less and less. I've actually been increasing the mg amount so that I can use the e-cig less frequently.

If by some chance ya stumble, make sure you fall on a PV

And that is indeed the joy of e-cigs. When quitting analogs there is no fall back position. I'm moving off to alternatives but if I fail, e-cigs will be my crutch. It's so nice to have a backup plan (I feel like the A-Team now).

Exactly! Plus I wanted to quit using PV's all together. They were a great crutch and helped me get away from analogs easier than with out. I just didn't want to have something else rule my life. Charging batteries, carrying extra parts, carts, liquid and keeping stocked on everything. Don't get me wrong, I liked the PV for helping me get away from analogs but not enough to completely replace them.

Thanks for everyones comments, keep them coming.

I wish you total success! I understand what you mena about ruling your life. I've noticed I vape MORE than I actually smoked cigs! My co-workers who never seen me smoke a cig have seen me vape and they're like..."I didn't even know you smoked!" Good luck to you!
Thanks! I was vaping more than I smoked too. It was more convenient in some ways.

Still going strong, day 2 now without any smoke or vapor.

I wish you all the luck I can muster for you. This is possibly the most difficult thing you'll ever do. I'll hold my applause, though, until your one-year anniversary of smoke and vape-free living. You'll face a crisis, have a setback, need courage for a new endeavor -- and the devil will call out to come back to your old friends. Fight the good fight.

I've been in the fight since July 17, 2007, using mostly e-cigs but also snus and a pipe -- and I get daily cigarette cravings. No demon I've ever faced is as strong as the nicotine demon. Kill him for me and others and let us score one for the good guys.

Keep it up!

I'm on my 3rd day using zero nic juice in my carts.

I had originally been cutting JC Tennessee Cured to 9 mg, but realized that every time I lowered the nic content, I would get minor withdrawal. I decided I might as well take that last step and jump to zero. So far so good.

While sitting in economics lecture today (I'm a college student), we spent 2 hours discussing negative externalities. The subject of this 2 hour lecture? Cigarettes, of course. Half way through lecture, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to get up, walk outside and have a few puffs from my PV with zero nic. To my surprise, after a couple of minutes, the cravings subsided, and now I know, more than ever, I can finally kick this chemical addiction.

The next question...how am I ever going to live with out all these scrumptious flavors? If only they made a chewing gum in Tennessee Cured or Original Tobacco flavor, haha.

Thanks TB. Going on day 3 now. I must say that quitting analogs was very difficult. The day I got the PV was the last day I've smoked an analog. It was really hard. I couldn't imagine taking this on having not used the PV exclusively for close to 2 months. Some say that I'm stubborn and have a very strong will. I'm hoping this work in my favor.

I've been testing myself the last few weeks. Seeing how long I could go without taking a puff. Going out to the bar for drinks and not puffing the whole time I was there. After meals, trying not to puff for a while. To my surprise it was easier than expected. I feel this has to do with the fact that I got away from analogs and all the other addicting chemicals in them, thanks to the PV.

One thing I can say is, the longer I go with out having a puff the harder it will be to fall back. I just don't want to start at day 1 again and go through this all over.

I'll agree that this is a tough demon to kill. I'll continue to fight the fight for us good guys!

Keep it up!

Keep it up! For me the chemical addiction to nicotine isn't as bad as the addiction to cigs. Once I got over that I got over that I feel confident I can beat this nic addiction.

Update:
Still going strong and haven't broken down once! :D

Congratulations!

I managed to go PV free for four straight days recently because I was scuba diving and didn't like the idea of breathing air at increased pressure whilst having lungs coated with VG, PG [and any number of other mystery ingredients in e-liquid]. I couldn't use snuff either during this time for obvious reasons(!) Fortunately snus came to my rescue between dives.

I don't see me going nicotine free in the foreseeable future so if you're managing without any alternatives, very well done.
