Radio Show Chance to get the word out

I may have an opportunity to go on a local radio talk show and was hoping members of the forum could help me out.

I have been using an e-cig since October 2009, and have been selling them locally (friends, word of mouth, that free website everyone uses to sell stuff) since November 2009.

I've done a ton of research, and have a lot of information, but realize I will be exposing myself to a largely uneducated and possibly hostile audience. So please help me out.

1) Has anybody else done a radio show guest spot?

2) What are some of the harder questions I can expect (both from the host and the callers) and any suggested responses, resources I can cite?

Also, I have some questions I could not find the answers to or found conflicting information on.

3) I looked at the CASAA TSNA Chart which compares nicotine based nitrosamine levels, the only constituent in the liquid I carry and use that is on the California Proposition 65 warning list.

The comparison for both liquid and analogs is in nanograms/g. What is the weight of tobacco in a single cigarette or pack? Is there a consensus on how much e-liquid is used, or a range, equivalent to a single cigarette or pack? I've always used 1 drop is about equivalent to a cigarette since 5 drops need to be added roughly every 50 puffs, or about equivalent to 5 cigarettes. How many drops are in a gram for the conversion?

4) How much nicotine is delivered compared to cigarettes? I know this will vary with strength (18, 24, 36) as well as with cigarettes.

5) A tough question: With internet sales, what is to stop children from getting a credit card and ordering?

6) Are there any long term studies with exposure to inhaled propylene glycol similar to the amount a vaper would encounter? Remember that cigarettes were once thought to be safe.

7) How dangerous is the liquid? I tell everybody that because a 10ml bottle of 24mg/ml is a relatively high concentration of nicotine, it should be treated as a poison, and could be deadly if swallowed by children or pets. This is one where there is conflicting data, about how much is a deadly concentration if ingested.

8) Could the e-cig be a gateway to smoking? (I anticipate this question and have some ideas on how to answer it, but want to hear what others have to say)

9) How much nicotine is in second hand vapor?

10) Any other questions? Please play the devils advocate here, think of any questions you can add, and possible answers or ask the community to come up with an answer. Where possible, please provide a source.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Interesting.

(Some of your questions would be better answered by Doctor Vapor, I would think, I've asked some questions like yours before.) Welcome to ECF, and you will probably get thousands of more answers in the main body of forum.

I think Dr.Vapor already asked Rachael Ray on his video to invite him to her show. If you are a vaper in the general population, to #8 I don't think it's a gateway to smoking, unless you ban vaping.

Welcome to ECF, again!

When is the radio show, and is it on the web where all of us here at ECF can listen?

Here is the link to Dr. Vapor's video that I mentioned:

As for #5, kids can't legally get a credit card unless they buy one of the gift Visa cards. Yes, they can lie about their age and do lots of things that they shouldn't do. Friends over 21 routinely procure alcohol and tobacco for minors. I don't see people complaining about those purchases. The point here is that they would have to break the law (if there was one) to obtain E-cigs since they are nicotine based products and carry the same age limit for purchase as tobacco.

Tobacco cigs are cooler and more convenient than pv's. I don't think kids are as interested in them as they are analogs. That may change. A pv isn't as portable as an analog, since you have to carry and charge batts and maintain e-juices.

That's great, I hope that you get on the show! You have some very good questions. Check out the E-cigarette News - E-Cigarette Forum. You can get a sense of what many reporters tend to ask and how they skew the information.

Kristin wrote a really nice summary debunking many of the myths/misinformation about ecigs. It can be found here 7 Biggest Electronic Cigarette Myths - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com.

Some of the same information is summarized in the body of the ecig petition for the alphabet soup groups here http://ecigssavelives.info/.

The comparison between absorption of nicotine from cigs and e-cigs isn't really known. Estimates range from 10-40% of nicotine absorbed by ecigs relative to cigs (there are references for this-perhaps someone can provide the links). This is a great chance to talk about the additives in tobacco cigs (such as ammonia) that increase the addictive properties of nicotine.

There are many items in a typical household that must be handled with care and kept away from small children. More children die from eating cigs than from drinking e-juice. In fact there are no reports of serious harm to children OR adults related to e-cigs. None. The fears are based on the perceived potential for harm, not on any actual harm that has ever been reported. Unlike our ex-friend the tobacco cig.

edit: moved on? after 6 posts? what's up with that?
