Rapid carbonization at coils?

I have number of top-wick tanks. (iClear30s, Dual Coil Vision Vivi Novas, and Smok Vivi Rebuildables.... The Smok tanks have been modded and rebuilt w/ 3mm Ekowool & 30 awg Kanthal). I primarily use an SVD with 3400mah18650 Panasonic cells and adjust the voltage to the resistance of the coils.

I have found that my coils seem to develop heavy carbon deposits fairly quickly (even quicker with darker-colored liquids). (We are talking a couple/few days of use...less than half-a-week...of moderate use for most of the tanks.) This is most noticeable on the Smok tanks, but it seems this is largely due to the readily accessible coils, since upon actually inspecting the coils in the other tanks, they are showing the same effect.

The carbon build-up(?) does not seem like a burnt coil/wick, as I am able to hit the coil quickly with a propane torch flame, and the build-up burns to ash and essentially vanishes.

As for my vaping style: I DO hit my tanks hard...moderately long, heavy draws. I love thick warm vapor.

What IS this black build-up, and what can I do to slow/minimize its generation?

Thank you, in advance, for your feedback.

Yup, all the juice additives that can't be vaporized (sweeteners, colorings, flavoring) accumulate and cook on your heating coil. You can remove some of that buildup by soaking the coils in PGA or vodka or even denture cleaning solution--that will take care of some but not all of the gunk. Dry burning is the only way to restore the coil to its original, pristine state.
