I've been using mech mods for years and years. I'm knowledgeable of Ohms law and electronics/wiring/soldering/etc. And i'm a big tinkerer... time to build a box mod!

I can't seem to decide which way to go for my first box. I've been reading through http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...flip-top-vv-mod-20a-120w-dc-dc-converter.html and scouring Reddit as well as .................'s modders sections.

Raptor 20A or an OKR 10A or OKL 20A. As much as i've been reading id love some of your opinions, advice, tips and any suggestions on where to look for some quality step by step guides and/or videos. I just started the "How to build a 120 watt raptor box" series by Advicevice on YouTube... so far doesn't look bad at all!

So, what do you guys/gals think? Which way would you go... what components etc. would you use if you had to make your first box all over again?

Also - Any kits out there for a Raptor or OKR/L worth buying? I'm just getting into the pricing components stage and saw a few kits around that look relatively inexpensive.

Is it really "that much" more difficult? I'd love the end result of a 20A box... i'm good with a soldering gun (years of modding video game controllers etc. lol) but like i mentioned... will be my first mod. 10A vs 20A...hmmm.

you'd probably get better results if you work your way up

but you're obviously free to do it how you wish

I stumbled across this super nice, pre-assembled OKR 10A breakout board and can't resist... i mean all the tiny soldering is already done and on a tiny, tidy breakout board. I'm trying to see if they offer an un-assembled version as well.

Might just need to do a OKR 10A first and go from there. Does $25.00 seem like a decent price to you all who've sourced and built these OKR's before? OKR T-10 Breakout Board - Assembled – Iron Lung Design

hi snow blind
I have both ...both vape nice . for me I like the t10 for its size and I wont defenatly not come even close to vape at more then 10 amps!
the wired up one looks great if you have the room ..its more like a cube but the price looks good to me w all the components .
I wired mine flat and it fits nice laying next to a bottom feeder tank out of lexan. I found the t`10 was harder to solder ..because of the pin spacing ...I soldered one pin at a time and secured it with heat shrink until all done . I am using 18650 batts.
charging is a different story ... I think there is a onboard module available at varitube now . but I prefere a external one with charger port to plug in ..balance charger ..set at 2 amps.
o many ways to go and none are wrong I got news for you ; if you are a tinkerer it wont be your last mod !
just have funn

The board did look a little challenging to solder cleanly... that's when i was sorta pumped when i saw them doing the pre-soldered breakouts. But you're right... i wish they did them flat so i could cram it into a smaller Hammond box and still run dual 18650s. I might snag one to start off with before messing around with some SX chips... that's what i'd really like to get into after a few "easier" builds. And yeah... i figured this could turn into a dangerously consuming hobby being a gadget, tinker type. But hey, there are worse hobbies lol.

What do you mean by external charge module? Are you just talking about a "wall charger"? I'm intrigued.

Also - Anybody know where to find those mini boxes that Mast uses for the mini and micro builds he does? (Plumes of hazards Mast Blast 09)

what I mean is what I am using is a imax b6 charger ..external..connected with plugs.
if you want an on board charger there is a module from veritube I beleave it charges at 1 amp.

Man oh man.... That pre soldered OKR board looks really tempting. Can anyone see any major drawbacks on picking on up?

I've been collecting parts over the past few months to make some box mods. I planed on making some unregulated ones, but recently also picked up some OKR-T10 chips as well. I've got everything I need so far (down to the epoxy and paint) except a new soldering iron and a step drill. I'm assuming you guys use a step drill to get the holes for the switch and 510?

I'm in the same boat as the OP I guess as I have yet to make my first box, but after deciding to also get the parts for a regulated mod, I went with the OKR because I hear it's much easier to get up and running and because it's kinda a tried and true chip. People have been using them for a long time now with no issues. I hear far more issues with the raptor chip.
