So I picked up a AGA-T rba, and I tried the other day and gave up! I decided to try again. 1st I tried a wick and coil and it was @ 2.5 ohm and I was getting a burnt taste, and the wick looked brunt. When i fired it up it took awhile for all the coils to light up.So I tired using the 400 mesh I got too, and I did about 4 coils and I kept end getting error on my provari E1,E4,E8!

Just don't give up! It takes some time but its worth it. So relieving I don't have to worry about running out of replacement heads/cartos/attys any more or keep dropping cash. For the cost of one high end atty I got 200 feet of kanthal & bamboo wick (could've saved a bit on the mesh had I shopped around some more). Plus the reward of DIY anything.

The stainless steel wicks take about a half tank (1.5mL give or take) to really kick in and give true flavor. Taking a guess that is what was happening with your first attempt.

The second attempt would be short circuiting on the wick. Just need to try and oxidize it again (or get real picky and go with the unoxidized petar k method).

I'm seeing a lot of mention about porous ceramic wicks. These require no oxidation and cannot short. May want to look into getting some.

I successfully make my first ss wick and coil wrap today too. It's been about my 5th try and got calluses on my thumbs. I get no taste either but to have vapor. Been changing my volts ans watts up and down. I'll listen to the other folks and be patient. I have a cobra and vaping 60/40, on 325 ss w/ 32 kanthal

It took me maybe 5-6 tries before I got a wick and coil that was working well. And that was after a lot of research and watching videos. Very tempted to give up at several points but after I finally figured out a basic method that worked, it was a matter of tweaking for flavor and vapor. This might help.

Sorry I dont quite know how to post a link :)

Thanks for the encougerment everyone! Ill give it another try when I probably get home from work. I did notice when I oxides the mesh with a torch the mesh is it suppose to be all the same color after or is it ok is has spots on it?

When i orch mine it gets darker. I try not o grt it all black. A brown or gray color will do. I find i have more shorts when i overoxidize

You too? I have had my genesis atty (a DID clone- ok, a cheapie but please don't kill me) for a week. I'm trying to enjoy the experience of finding I wake up with a 2.2 ohm coil which after two firings becomes a 1.8... then a 2.2... then a 1.0... then an error message... then a 2.5... the coils aren't touching, everything is in tight but the wick unbelievably likes to move all by itself. Despite no visible shorts, the coils will not glow evenly (must mean I build a bad coil, but I can't see what I have done wrong). I've lost the filler screw and will have to get a replacement somehow (meantime I made a little plug for the filler hole).

I can see why some people despair. I sit down an hour every day and 'play' with the thing (1.8, 2.4, 1.2, error, error, 2.3) just to get a wisp of vapour. I'm reading, I'm watching vids but still no pennies dropping.

Now fiber wicks and I get on famously and never had any issues- but the genesis?

Yeah, you really have to oxidize that ss mush good other wise you will get to high off amps(low resistance) and you device has an amp cutoff point. This happened to me last night when I got my first RBA Tank. Finally after 3 feet of wick in dawned on me that I didn't oxidize the ss mesh as good as I had thought. The way I distinguished this was gently pulling the mesh out of the coil that I had made prior and just put that on my RBA. This was giving me 1.7 consistent ohm. Before it was showing 2.2 and I would take a puff and it went down in ohms any where from .1 - .5 ohms, until giving me an error.

So my conclusion was that the ss mesh need to be oxidized very well in order for this to work. You see, you are wrapping a coil around metal(ssmesh) that more than likely has a lower resistance than the coil you are trying to make(most of the time the thicker the metal or wire the lower the resistance). When oxidizing ssmesh, this allows it to have a much higher resistance(I think)

i am not saying that this could be it but one time my 510 connection on the bottom, where it screws into the mod was not out quite enough, it must of got sucked up a little and wasnt making a good connection. i was getting ohm readings like that until i was able to extend it out farther. otherwise mostly its just a bad connection at the top nut. theres so dam many things that can happen to these devices, i love them
