Am relatively new to vaping and have been doing tons of reading up on stuff like mech mods, safety pertaining to batteries, RBAs etc as I see this as a next step up for me :D

Have never tried RBAs before and am thinking of getting a genesis style tank. Some forumners I have spoken to have suggested attys, or carto tanks but I dun fancy any of them as attys need lots of refilling, and carto tanks need replaceable cartos, I don't fancy spending $$ on cartos either.

Would much rather get a genesis style tank so that I can rebuild cheaply and not have to refill all the time.

Question is:

1) What happens when a coil shorts itself (hotspots and such etc..) on a mesh wick when using a mech mod?
Will the battery blow itself up?

2) Are Cobra tanks any good?

1) no. You will get a hot spot, maybe pop the coil. On a mech it is easier t.o get the hot spots out on a partially drained battery, so you are Putting 3.7 v through instead of 4.2. Use short pulses and tweak the hot spots until it glows uniformly.
2) I have only had the clone, which worked ok, but the build quality issues eventually knocked it out. Strippingg threads, broken o rings that were not common sizes, torn insulators. The real deal looks much better.

OK I am under the impression that all shorts dangerously affect the battery. So in the case of a hot spot or short in the coil, nothing will happen to the battery?

Have another question. Also noticed that the wicks on most tanks are located very close to the center post, as shown in the pic.

What happens if the wick makes contact with the center? Will that lead to a short as well?

Seems most of these tanks were not designed with much safety in mind?

If your wick is touching your center post it can lead to a short. If you have a short from your coil to your mesh and the wick is touching the center post that's not a very good thing. Just try to make sure the mesh doesn't touch the center post or the bottom of the tank if it is metal. Shorts to the mesh and hot spots are isolated to your top cap which is insulated from the center post. You can pulse fire your mod and work these out for the most part. With a good battery this isn't much of a problem.
