I think rebuilding my kayfun is 100 times easier than rebuilding my protanks or evods. I don't even use them anymore. As far as wire and wicking go, I use 28g with a 12 wrap micro coil at 1.6 ohms. I wrap it on a 5/64 drill bit getting the coils wrapped as close as I can. Then I pinch the coil closed with tweezers and torch it with a butane torch till it turns red. Let it cool, and install on your RBA. Then roll some cotton into a wick, feed it through the coil, and trim the cotton. And bam! Your done! Easy peasy!

Looks like the very long ithaka hot leg would get too hot and waste power if use resistance wire. I get uneasy if hot leg is much over 1/8".
Well, you could go with a carto tank. I was thinking about that for work.

I just saturate wick. No loose juice so no leak.
I recommend rebuilding a tank head that you have already at first. The Vivi Novas are great rebuilt with cotton. Here's a link to a video I did. Well, I did two parts to the video and this is the first part. The similar build applies to most coils whether evods, kanger t3's etc. minus the cotton legs for those. Following this thread because I have been interested in RBAs as a step up from Carto tanks. Meaning a step up in flavor and longevity of the filler and coil.
Here is the issues for me that have been keeping me from jumping right in.....
1) Fiddle time.
Carto tanks are easy. Prime the carto, slip it in, fill tank, takes 5 minutes and I vape away.
Building coils and threading wicks take more time than that I am guessing. Then I read about all the different materials and ohm checkers and torches, etc.
Can one buy precoiled, prethreaded coils? I have seen them on Fasttech and a few other sites. That would speed the process up considerably.
2) Leakage
I read regularly that most of these tanks leak if not kept upright (except the RBAs that cost more than my Provari). I like to carry several prefilled tanks to be able to switch up flavors through the day. A leaky tank is not going to work for that.
So, which tanks do not leak?
Those are my 2 main issues. Are they......valid?
Are RBAs just not right for the lazy?

Carto tanks are good to start but my favorite juice tastes nil in them. For me I couldn't use them. Then I used Vivi Novas and loved them awhile got tired of buying the replaceable heads so started rebuilding them. Way better. I'd say if you are
happy with your main flavor in them, stick with it then. To each their own. Everyone likes different and needs to find their happy spot. I personally had no luck with them because they muted the flavor a lot that I liked so much. Everyone is different.

Oh, and as far as fiddle time. I could probably replace my wick about as fast as you refill and replace a carto tank. Lol. Not really a lot of fiddle time once you get used to it.
Can build a simple single coil w/ cotton wick in about 5 minutes once get the hang of it. Will last a long time w/ unflavored or other clean burning liquid. For pocket carry I use unmodified screw top cobra; hasn't leaked. I use a silicone carto condom and piece of tape if I wan't to be absolutely sure it doesn't leak; probably not necessary. I have the cheapo chrome plated version; I'd buy SS if I had a do over.
The risk is you may start chasing the highest quality vape by experimenting w/ many types of coil/wick builds.

Drip atomizers involve dripping drops of liquid into the atty then vaping it. SO it will only leak if you over drip or do not vape all that you dripped in there. A nice starter RDA is the IGO-L or the Octopus. I like drippers as a starting place for people rebuilding. Bit less fiddly.
If you find you really like RDAs and dripping you might consider a bottom feeder + RDA like the REO + RM2. THat lets you feed the juice from the bottom by squeezing a bottle in the mod. No drop dripping.

You do NOT need the jig, I wrap around a 14 gauge needle.

Here's one version of the one I posted before. It's the same double twisted 32 gauge wire but it's a quad verticle coil. It has cotton pulled through each coil for wicks and takes about 20 drops without leaking. I think I over juiced it in this pic but it still did not leak. It will last quite awile on 20 drops
