RBA vape too hot

I want to love my kayfun, I really do. But it vapes too hot for me and I choke. 2.2 ohm at 3.6v, cotton wick, 100%vg juice. I have to put a 3" piece of plastic straw on the drip tip to even use it. Looks ridiculous and I do have an extra long drip tip on order but it doesn't make it smooth…just usable. Yes, I'm sensitive, but I don't have this problem with the PTs so I'm still thinking it has something to do with my builds? I've also tried lower nic levels and even vaped flavorless but it seems to be a unique problem with the rba. Any suggestions?

Does your Kayfun have adjustable air flow? You can always try to open the air flow up more to help cool it down. What mod are you using?

coil height above the center air hole? Adjust airflow to its most open? Also, use a drip tip with a larger hole. My KF's with their stock DT's are fire-spitting dragons.

Sigelei Zmax, wide open air. Fire spitting dragon…great description! That's exactly what it feels like. So far the straw is the only thing that has helped unless I hold the vape in my mouth for a few seconds before inhale. I don't understand why this happens on the KF but not the PTs.

I had to switch to a delrin drip tip for my dripper running at 30 watts

I don't know why this is the case either. Seems like smaller hole means smaller target for the spitfire. But my guess is that a smaller DT hole increases the draw force, which increases the velocity and pressure of the air you're drawing across the coils and this makes the airborne vapor hotter, faster and angrier. a simple acrylic straight-sided drip tip has solved the issue for me.

I use a glass DT with a fairly large bore which hasn't helped. Maybe I'll try raising the coil higher?

Hot spots in the coil? Coil too loose? Also, thinner wire can heat up quicker or you could add 1 or 2 wraps for more resistance.

Gee, I haven't tried higher resistance thinking 2.2 was plenty but it's sure worth a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

I was having the same problem; solved it by building my coil @ 1.6 Ω. It heats up quicker, you take a shorter/quicker draw and there is less heat dissipation needed. Also, check what pastor said about hot spots; make sure the "legs" aren't heating up, too.

I am happy you got it working for you.

Just to be clear for future builds. The closer the coil is. To the air hole, the LOWER the throat hit. Next time you rewick/rebuild your coil try moving the coil down closer to the hole.
