Im thinking you would get a lot of washbacks of gunks if you directly heat the juice puddle on the atty floor. You are boiling a large portion of a the juice and vaporizing the rest.

The wick serves the purpose of regulating the amount of juice in contact with the coil at one time. So im thinking there must first be a way to do that without a wick. I had an idea recently but no way to test it out since it involves an entirely new design and in no way guaranteed to work...

Eh.. there's not a large portion of juice to begin with. If it's cooking juice then it's at least not so bad that it's obvious in the flavor before the atty is dry. I've found that it works best to not fully submerge the coil. I start of vaping this with the air hole to the side then as I get through the 20 or so puffs I end up with it pointed towards me. Obviously not an ideal way to vape but it does have some benefits, juice tasting for example.. which is great for me because my gf went on a slightly ridiculous mount baker spree recently..

I did this today with 28 gauge - it works really well! Atty does get VERY HOT, though.

Thanks for posting this!

My pleasure :) it's been fun playing with the idea. Unfortunately I haven't been able to best my first attempt in the OP (YET!), lol, or even match it... At least I haven't torn that one apart though, still enjoying it :D

Couldn't make it work, lol

Plus once I followed pdib to micro coil land it was all over

My whole reason for trying to achieve wickless vaping was to make it quicker, easier and cheaper to switch between flavors. It doesn't get a whole lot easier than plucking out a tuft of cotton and twisting it up. I can swap wicks anywhere any time in less than a minute.

This is achievable, but I never got it to perform anywhere near as well as a wicked coil. Even if I had to re-drip every hit I would do it if the vape was as good or better than a wicked coil, but it's just not.
